Widow in Islam

Assalam-o-Alikum Guppies,
I want to know the role of widow in Islam- what are her rights with regards to re-marriage and other things.. Do you think our society does justice to them? Guys are not eager to embrace Widows and their kids.. Your views are appreciated.

Re: Widow in Islam

Walaykum assalam,

I don't think society does justice to the widows. Perhaps those who have lost their wives or are divorced may be more accepting of widows and their children.

I doubt that there would be any restrictions on widows for remarrying.

Re: Widow in Islam

AOA,
I am agree with Sadiyah. No restrictions in Islam but thinking of our Pakistani society is disgusting.

Re: Widow in Islam

well pakistani society has its hang-ups.. (this is not to say similar hang ups dont exist elsewhere..thought i would state it), and this hang up is one of them, is not just widows, also divorced women, and in some cases even women whose engagements have been broken.

The deeper you go into ghatiya mentality layers you will find ppl who would not want to marry a girl if her mother was divorced or sister was divorced. Basically saying that there was probably a reason she was divorced and thus the upbrinigng of teh daugter must be bad as well.'

anyways thats a tangent, but just to explain that how societal hangups have nothing to do with religion

Re: Widow in Islam

absolutely right.

Re: Widow in Islam

Sad.. imagine a widow of a soldier being rejected by the society- wife of the same guy who gave his life for the society.. sad! There are some who you meet who lecture a lot on this- like they have no problems in marrying widowed/divorced women but when it comes to actually marrying them, they show their true colors. They show how hypocratical and un-Islamic we have become...
