Why is daughter refer by dad and son by mum?

Like flan flan is "dad names " di dhee and flan flan is "mothers name " da puttar ?

Even dada for daughter and nani for sons

Is this punjabi culture ?

I don’t think it works that way. It is more random. Depends on family tradition I guess.

BTW, I am frequently referred to as "Khotay da puttar’. I am sure it refers to neither of my parents.
