Why?

Re: Why?

Because marrying who you want would involve you having to go OUT IN THE WORLD AND MEET PEOPLE.

That's haraam, you know.

Re: Why?

Marriage is all about give and take. He gives and she takes.

Re: Why?

ooooooo no....its the other way around. SHE gives and HE takes

Re: Why?

nia, because parents raise their kids and according to our desi culture, parents have the ultimate right to get the kids married off to whomever they like. If the kids start marrying who they like, I bet it'll look bad in our desi community.

PCG, I hope you realize most desis don't care much about haraam/halaal; rather it's the culture that guides their lives and other affairs.

Re: Why?

Too much sarcasm!

I agree with a lot of things here, but I know many Pakistani families/persons who got rishtas from abroad and turned them down. I also know of the cases where marrying a doctor/techie from Pakistan proved to be a 'lottery ticket' for desis abroad. On the other hand, many people in Pak do consider such rishtas as a path to green card and material comforts. Many of these people have to face disappointments in one form or the other.
Well, parents should not force their kids, and meterial prosperity and the quaint old cultural traditions should not be the criteria for match-making.

I like the term 'God-fearing-FOB-girls'.
