You mean it was a science lesson you were teaching the kids?
Well as for off topic discussions in a classroom or my personal views, I usually step aside and point out to my students that its my personal opinion. But then Iv never really taught youngsters- they probably cant tell the different between facts and personal opinions.

I wasn't teaching, inshallah il be doing that next year when i qualify, it was a question from a 5 year old girl, i didnt knw what to say to her as im pretty dense when it comes to science!!:(
The thing with young children is that they see teachers as being authoritarian figures so its not appropritate to give them personal opinions especially regaurding religion as when they get home and tell mummy and daddy, teacher is in big trouble if mummy and daddy don't approve of what teacher is saying
am i making sense!! we just had a lecture at uni abt this issue so its freaked me out!!
i have to teach myself political correctness
and how to spell!!
you could tell them its coz the air blanket around the earth filters out the blue from white sunlight. you can even tell them you dont know, or that you arent sure. better than dissuading them from asking questions. kids are usually way smarter than adults give them credit for. ;)
