Well this culture is still there, even there are still some communities who do not in the favor of sitting the Bride and Bridegrrom beside each other. Bride has her own stage in a saperate 'compartment', where men (even Dulha) is not allowed to enter.
I do not have any prob with it because it's not that silly.
