why was the kaba made?

(pls forgive my ignorance)… i’m a little confused abt prophet Abraham (pbuh). I’v been told that he was the FIRST prophet of Islam and he was the one that built the kaba. But WHY did he build it (other than b/c Allah told him to)? For what reason?
To my understanding, Islam didn’t officially become a religion until Prophet Muhammed (pbuh). Hajj didn’t exist until the Prophet… right? Then what was the pupose of the Kaba back then (other than storing idols)? and Why is it regarded as the “house of Allah” now?

and on a side note…Jesus (pbuh) was the phrophet for Christians, Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) was the prophet for Muslims and Prophet Abraham (pbuh)was the prohet for the Jews…right? or he’s one of the Prophets Jews follow along with Moses?

Re: why was the kaba made?

salaam,.i can't answer all ur questions but i'll tell u what i no,.Abraham was NOT the first prophet. That was Adam. Also,.the prophet who brought the revelations which the jews follow was Musa,...Abraham was the father of Ismail and Ishaq. His son Ismail is the father of the Arab nation,.........Ishaq on the other hand was the father of the Jewish nation. Therefore,..both Islam and Judaism originate from Abraham,............:)

Re: why was the kaba made?

OK...understood... but if Judaism originated from Abraham, why don't they follow the custom of "qurbani"? why do only muslims celebrate bakra eid and sacrifice the lamb in memory of them? why don't the jews follow this custom as well?

Re: why was the kaba made?

Isa (AS), Musa (AS), Nuh (AS), Lut (AS), and the remainder of the prophets and messengers were sent to specific nations to call them to worship Allah (SWT) alone, the path of Allah (SWT), and to give up whatever abominations they indulged in. However, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was sent to the entire humanity and not just a nation in particular. This includes humans and jinn alike.

All the prophets and messengers have only worshipped Allah (SWT) alone and have instructed the same to their people. Therefore, the message (Islam) that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) came with is not new.

Ibrahim (AS) was not the first to build Bakkah/Makkah, rather it was Adam (AS). Ibrahim (AS) renovated it by the Will of Allah (SWT).

Bakkah/Makkah was initially built by Adam (AS) to worship Allah (SWT) there.

Verily, the first House (of worship) appointed for mankind was that at Bakkah (Makkah), full of blessing, and a guidance for Al-'Âlamîn (mankind and jinn). [003:096]

Re: why was the kaba made?

wrong…
i dont have it right now, will need to go to my books and dig out the exact references, but even in jew literature u can find accounts of prophets abraham, ishaq, yaqoob (the man nicknamed israel, from whom bani israel take their name) all going to makkah for pilgrimage (i.e. hajj)…

ppl used to come to makkah for hajj even before Muhammad (saw) was made prophet and even before his birth…

Re: why was the kaba made?

then why don't Jew's perform Hajj? how did it evolve strictly into an ISLAMIC requirement?

Re: why was the kaba made?

^ they were forbidden from interest, they happily deal with it now....
they were told not to drink wine, they forgot the commands....
similarly they forgot this too....

Re: why was the kaba made?

1st century AD History and archaelogical evidence suggests that the Kaaba structure (and others like it) was most likely a form for the worship of the chief god of Petra, Dhu-shara. There was even a festival of birth which involved exactly seven circumambulations and sacrificial lambs, running between mountains and the rest..

Re: why was the kaba made?

The lamb sacrifice story is based on the relationship Prophet Abraham/Ibrahim had with his younger son Ishmael/Ismail (Peace be upon them). Jewish traditions severely downplay the role of Ismail (and his mother Hager/Hajirah), and only focus on Abraham's elder son, Isaac/Ishaq (Peace be upon him) as the jewish nation is based on the family tree from Isaac.

Re: why was the kaba made?

what exactly is the basic difference between judaism and islam? The basic difference between Islam and christiantiy is that christians believe jesus is the son of god whereas muslims believe jesus was a prophet and that Allah has no sons ect ect.

But what abt Judaism? the reason I ask is b/c i'm noticing some links btwn islam and Judaism. Kurbani and hajj seem to have stemmed from Judaism buut Jews havn't adopted these practices?

Re: why was the kaba made?

my mom says that Jews are condemned in the Quran b/c they troubled the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) - is this also why they are condemned b/c they forgot the commandments?

Re: why was the kaba made?

one big difference is that they dont accept jesus(pbuh) as a prophet while muslims do

Re: why was the kaba made?

I dont think all jews are condemned those who rejected the prophet and distorted their messages are the one explicitly condemned

Re: why was the kaba made?

They do Qurbani. Similar to Muslims, Jews recite something along the lines of "In the name of God" before sacrificing an animal.

There is hadees or a verse in the Quran (will have to search for the exact phrase & referrence) which says something like: "You can sleep in the house of a Christian, but DO NOT eat with him; similarly, you can eat with a Jew, but DO NOT sleep in his house."

My apologies if I've made any mistake.

:salam:[INDENT]** 26. We appointed Abraham to establish the Shrine: "You shall not idolize any other god beside Me, and purify My shrine for those who visit it, those who live near it, and those who bow and prostrate. **

**Answer to this can be found in 22:26 to 22:30 - These verses are quoted above

** To my understanding, Islam didn’t officially become a religion until Prophet Muhammed (pbuh). Hajj didn’t exist until the Prophet… right?

**Wrong. Islam existed before Adam [PBUH] - and He (Adam) was the first human to recieve it. Hajj was started from the period of Abraham [PBUH] - whereas Prophet Mohammad [PBUH] restored the practice.
**

Then what was the pupose of the Kaba back then (other than storing idols)? and Why is it regarded as the “house of Allah” now?

**The purpose of Kabaa is Unity. Kabaa in English means “SUBMISSION” - It is a symbol and nothing more **(It is by no means holy!, it is just a symbol, and some deviated or less knowledgeable Muslims who kiss it or touch it - display their ignorance).

and on a side note…Jesus (pbuh) was the phrophet for Christians, Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) was the prophet for Muslims and Prophet Abraham (pbuh)was the prohet for the Jews…right? or he’s one of the Prophets Jews follow along with Moses?

All Prophets (except Mohammad [PBUH]) were sent to Individual Nations. Sadly, enough - the people forgot the message - and when the time for Mohammad [PBUH] arrived - The forgotten practices and Message was restored: Islam. ISA [PBUH] was no Christian and Musa [PBUH] was no Jew - They were all Muslims and preached Islam.

Jazak’Allah Khair

Re: why was the kaba made?

definitely not there in the Quran…
and havent heard any hadith either…

infact i’ve heard that food of ahl-e-kitaab is halal and allowed for muslims to eat…
and what u wrote contradicts this…
