Re: Why was I banned for a month??
this is pointless, but i'll post one last time. you can justify it all you like, but there is no way even you believe this is fair.
if every cop except one would only issue verbal warnings, there is something wrong with either the police force, or the rogue cop.
While in principle your argument is sound, even in the real world you have inconsistent application of punishment. In most judicial systems, a judge is given sentencing guidelines and within the guidelines the judge can decide whether to impose the minimum or maximum sentence.
Holding GS to a standard of absolute equality takes away their discretionary power which is applied to foster a positive and collegial atmosphere. The discretion allows them to serve the best interest of GS which may not always require full points/bans to be imposed. It adhering to the spirit of the law, rather than the letter of the law.

Although Sehrysh already said what I wanted to say but let me tell you our logistics
When it comes to defining profanity, we have 2 school of thoughts in our team.
My position is to find a good balance between both approaches as both are valid ones. Our good balance is to ignore the occasional potty mouths and hit hard on repeat offenders. We cannot write 2 diff policies for these 2 sets as who would draw the line that who used a bad word once in blue moon and who uses it repeatedly (and out of context). This is where the judgment of the mods come in play.
Point is, there is no confusing in our policies. Our implementation of that policy though is based on context that the word is used in and judgment of the mod.

the thing with analogies is, one can always pick one that suits their argument. i wouldn't go so far as comparing muzna to a judge. and the analogy i want to use would definitely get me banned. i'm done here.

Either that, or a comment that reflects an understanding that online life, much real life holds very few absolutes and is governed with reasoned judgement by fallible people.

I have no idea which mod is strict and which is not. For the sake of discussion, if one mod(out of say 40) is infinitely stricter than others on a consistent basis, then I sure wish we do not have a similar situation wrt judges. I sure do not want one judge to be infinitely stricter than others on a consistent basis. That will be unfair on the defendants that appear in his/her court. So IMO the analogy breaks down. Ditto with cops. If there is one (out of 40 cops) who is the only one giving out tickets, one cannot simply attribute that to judgment, fallibility etc.
Having said that, I like the mods here, all of them.
Re: Why was I banned for a month??
Most probably the former, because I for one can’t understand why someone like you has to come here and write all these long posts justifying their judgments, or in this case advocating their fallibility, which coming from you is severely lacking in credibility. I am pretty sure OP wasn’t the least bit interested in your opinion. You remind me of this guy Matthew from work, who has taken the onus of defending the administration’s policies upon himself. Let’s see, who else comes to mind? Ah yes, Dwight Shrute.
And as long as we are drawing parallels to real life, why not compare GS administration to a totalitarian regime? You already have all the ingredients. The powers that be with their “my way or the highway” attitude, have made it perfectly clear that they can ban anyone they please, whenever they please based on their “whims and desires” alone.
But hey, you are earning a lot of brownie points. I hope you land a mod gig soon. :k:
Re: Why was I banned for a month??
You’re right the management of this forum doesn’t need me to defend them - they’re quite capable of speaking for themselves. And I also don’t see any point in engaging in a back and forth with you since we obviously have a difference of opinion. But I can’t help but wonder, if you dislike the administration of this forum, why remain? There’s no compulsion for you to be “oppressed” by a totalitarian regime - you have the freedom of choice and the freedom of “mobility” - why not make use of it?

That's like saying the French resistance should have up and left when the Germans took over Vichy France.
Viva La Resistance!

Dislike? Dislike is too strong a word. What I feel about them can be best described as indifference. Why remain? Quite a popular question around these parts, despite having been asked to death already. Normally, I let a certain digit on my hand answer such questions, so here’s the politically correct version. Because there are some mighty fine people here on GS, who are worth putting up with the administration for.
And you really have no clue why someone being oppressed by a totalitarian regime won’t leave? I really thought you were smarter than that. I guess vocabulary isn’t the yardstick of wisdom, many believe it to be.
