Despite having more than 90% Non Muslim population why was Chittagong Hill Tracts included as part of Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Even now people of this region mostly Buddhists want to be part of India instead of Bangladesh…
During partition of India a delegation of CHT tribespeople met the leaders of the Indian Congress to press their demand for union with India. Despite the support of the Indian Congress, the Bengal Boundary Commission, headed by Cyril Radcliffe, awarded the CHT region to Pakistan.
The inclusion of the CHT region into the state of Pakistan marked the beginning of hostilities between the state and the tribespeople. The tribespeople had already hoisted the Indian flag, which was lowered by the Pakistan Regiment. A Muslim League leader commented, "If necessary, we shall tame the tribals like elephants."10
Since the inception of the state of Pakistan, the people of the CHT region were branded as “pro-Indian.” This mindset of the Pakistani leadership was not inclined to politically accommodate the CHT leaders. However, after independence, the Pakistani government did not take any drastic measures regarding the CHT region because it was preoccupied with other political issues that eventually led to the collapse of the civilian government in Pakistan and the beginning of the military regime in 1958.
Re: Why was Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) not included with India?
^ Was the leader of this particular region a muslim during partition of India and so that is why it was given to Pakistan? Even if the buddhists were the majority, why wasn't India allowed to keep it?

^ Why was gurdaspur among other districts of punjab that were muslim majority given to india to facilitate its advance towards kashmir, Ms. "indian muslim"? ;)

Chittagong Hill Tracts had 98% Non-Muslim population at the time of partition of India. Now with the Bengali Muslim migration the Non-Muslim population has reduced.
Re: Why was Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) not included with India?
actually i’m not an indian muslim if that is what you mean.
Anyway, the fact is that CHT was majority Buddhist and the leaders were chakma which were Buddhists as well so it doesn’t really explain why the british gave this place to East Pakistan. Everything should’ve led to this place joining with India.

What are you then if not “indian muslim” ? You can’t be more loyal than the king can you?
Btw, the case was made that percentage wise, it was a non-muslim area. The area is smack middle of bangladesh so how could it go to india? Btw, budhist doesn’t mean they wanted to go to india. Wasn’t it hindus vs muslims in partition?

Even in Kashmir , the Leh and Ladakh region is Buddhist majority and do not want to be part of Pakistan, but stay with India.
