In between the all odds and considering the fact that Mughals were just foreigner to the land (Babar conquered India 3 decades ago and died soon after. Humayon’s life passed in wandering in Ira and Sindh to regain the power).
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
because he was all inclusive king at the expense of Muslims by trying to introduce his own version of "best of all religions" [a mix of all] called "Deen e Ilaahii".
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
he was a liberal

Deen e Ilahi was not a religion demanding people to consider Akbar as a Prophet. It was just a socio-political brotherhood allowing everyone to go to the religion they like. I don't think that Muslims were forced to leave their religion during Akbar's region.
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
The movie Mughl e Azam says otherwise ![]()
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
that was him in his old age… baabay kharoos ho hi jaatay hain ![]()
and the movie was about the family affair..not the stateshood…

it was called a DEEN..."Deen-e-Ilaahii" and yes, no one was forced to accept it but it was definitely a move that angered Muslims. he did propagate his religion [deen] that he invented that was nothing short of kufr. he was such a hypocrite ... he wanted others to follow his deen e Ilahi while he himself stuck to islam...[he went to the grave of Salim Chishti's [r.s.] mazar looking for a son.
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
lols. but he was not liberal enough to accept a nautch girl as Bahoo… quite typical desi egoist ![]()
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
I think he was anything but hypocrite. He used to attend pooja path in temple built for Jodha Bai in palace as well besides going to Salim Chishti’s mazar for son.
PS: Going to a mazar for son also might have angered Muslims ![]()
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
he brought a Hindu wife which was totally against Islam without converting her...she practiced Hinduism while married...he himself did NOT convert...he did NOT approve of his son's choice of the wife because she was a nautch girl proves that he was a hypocrite. he is most loved by Hindus and most hated by Muslims.
i personally hate him!

Exactly that is the question. In between all such hatred he attracted due to his actions, why was he successful and considered most successful Mughal emperor by all historians (irrespective of their ideology)?
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
Are you watching the drama Jodha Akbar?
well, i know you’ll say , ‘NO’ , but I still wanted to ask.![]()
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
No. just started reading ‘The Mughal World- Life in India’s Golden Age’ by Abraham Eraly.

simply because he was more accepted by the majority Hindus as someone who wasn't harsh to them and who diminished the Muslim power to their benefit...they could see themselves in power sharing. Akbar was too shrewd and he not only screwed Muslims he also screwed Hindus by expanding his kingdom even farther.
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
I can’t read the kinda books you read ![]()
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
A very interesting book. some hillarious observation by foreigners about Indian climate, people, etc
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
Secularism, the key as South would have said.
Other than that Moghuls ruled India for around 300 years.

Was Akbar first secular ruler of India?
Re: Why was Akbar successful in ruling India?
Tolerance. The average person doesn't care who rules if their lives are uninterrupted or improved. That's just as true today as it was hundreds of years ago.

Sher Shah Suri was as tolerant as Akbar (if not more than him), but why Akbar is more praised and hilighted by historians?
Besides there were wars for expansion during Akbar's era that might have affected many people living in those areas. I think he played well politically by ending some practices that had burdened the masses (like Jizya).
