There are differing hadiths on this but the most-quoted hadith is:

" because the majority of inhabitants in Hell would be women because they have been ungrateful to their husbands .."- sahih bukhari

Well, why are women told to where nikab and burqa?
Why are Men the ones allowed to marry four wives?
Why do MEN get 20 Virgins in Paradise?
How is an adulteress or accussed adulteres tried in Islam exactly?

Yes, the pious do get rewarded, but being a pious women is far more difficult then being a pious man... Read the Koran, its filled with such male oriented stuff... Either you accept your role in Islam as a women, or you dont accpet Islam.
I actually listened to a speech once where this burqa clad young lady made speech in which she admited that in Islam, Women have to accpet that they not the equal of men, although she phrased it as, God gave us a different "role."

I guess it is very clear 4rm medical point of view why women can't have more then one husband. In the same manner it is not allowed just to marry 4 wives, it is a sin if he can't look after them, provides all their needs.
there is a book called "Women rights in Islam" kindly if anyone get a chance read it. it clearly state all the possible solution and reasons why these were placed and use of it.

there is another book called " WOMEN IN ISLAM" which is very good book 4rm women point of views, and i think if it is read by men they will clearly understad more

If believers themselves won’t buy it as you say, how would the non-believers buy?

Point is, there cannot be any moral explanation for it. In this world, in most countries such an act will be called immoral and certainly illegal.
