How are you? To start off with the thread I would like to know why didn’t Umar Gul play? Rana Naveed played instead. My choice is Umar Gul for his great form and took 5 and 4 wickets in the last two innings. Umar Gul bowling is like similar to Glen McGrath, bowling on height, which is extremely dangerous for batsmen to get caught behind the slips. Rana Naveed is great and uses his brain but he looks too old and he has not got more pace. We need young fit bowlers amongst pace. Therefore, I would choose Umar Gul over Rana Naveed. Please respect my opinions. What are your opinions regarding this?
InshaAllah in soon we can make a pair amongst opening. There is a big competition among Shoaib Malik, Muhammad Hafeez and Imran Farhat. So far I liked Muhammad Hafeez recently as he performed tremondous in the comeback.
As of test matches, we admire Younis Khan in batting. But in ODIs, he hasn't accomplished well as we have expected. In fact, he is lower performer as compared to ordinary batsmen in our team.
Becasue you can only play 11. Who will you drop to accomodate Umer Gul? Rana Naveed? but beside being a very good bowler, Rana can also bat which Umer can not and thats goes against him.
Rana was also doing a comeback so he needed to play so that he can be “in” before ODIS…
Brother, I apologize for mistyping that. I meant to say ODIs and once again I apologized. Now I have editted my post and please remove my quote as it made no sense now.

Brother, what did I say? Please respect everybody's opinion. The reason I like Umar Gul is because he is young and fit bowler and has more pace and he bowls on to the height causing dangerous for batsmen to get caught to the slips. Rana Naveed sometimes gives away much runs but takes wickets in ODIs as well. If not ODIs, atleast in test matches Umar Gul would be preferred instead, fair enough?
and what did i do to “dis-respect” your opinion? You asked the question in the thread “Why Umar Gul did not play in 20-20 match” and i think i only answered that..
Since all of our fasties and all-rounders are fit, there will be a competition between them to make it to the final XI. Good days ahead for Pakistan inshallah, as long as they keep their fitness level up.
Yep, Rana, Akhtar and Malik needed match practice before the ODIs. So they were played instead of in-form Gul who will definetely be given chance incase of anyone not 100% fit.
Gul is our back up bowler at one day level anyway...You cant drop Rana Naved...hes a top one day bowler and his battings improving...look at his averages for Sussex and you will understand how good his record is in these conditions...
Does there need to be a thread everytime someone is left out of the team? Obviously we can't play every single Pakistani in the same match. Someone good is ALWAYS going to get left out.
This is our best team..the one that played in the 20/20 so no Umar Gul, but i wud have like Farhat in there, but who to leave out, I think the management shud consider putting him in for Malik.
Maliks been one of our top performers on the one day circuit...Hes pretty much an automatic pick...his batting is essential and Bob Woolmer really likes him...
Hes also reasonably useful with the ball...
You are right but there is a huge competition among our openers since long time. Muhammad Hafeez is performing excellent at the moment and thus Imran Farhat had no choice. Shoaib Malik involve many fans including Bob Woolmer himself a fan of Shoaib Malik and hence he will absolutely play the match unless if out of form. Pakistan team only looks for consistant batsman. Muhammad Hafeez and Imran Farhat makes a great pair though.
