OK I know I’m really late but can you nice folks explain why someone should use Twitter? What is the primary purpose? How is it different from other social networking tools/sites?

many marketers use twitter for research purpose and analyze trends of campaign, product or current events.

Twitter is a blog, very short blog. It has a limit of 250 characters. That is it. You can have people follow you and similarly you can follow other people. Its famous amongst famous people as you dont need a computer for most of the part. You can do that from your smart phone. Because its simple in concept, the app is more powerful than lets say a FB app, so its convenient for for both bloggers and readers

Its just short!!

Short messages that can be updated 24/7 and you don't need a computer for it. A phone will do. I used it for a bit but the followers and following concept was a bit weird so I didn't continue. :-S
