the vast majority of the population within pakistan lives within punjab and sindh - punjab and sindh especially the rural areas are mostly Barelvi - Barelvis do not support the taliban. then up to 20-30% of the punjab sindh population could even be shia - you know how they stand with the taliban.
rural punjabis and sindhis have nothig in common with the taliban culturally and practise wise.
urban punjabis and sindhis could have a more islamic influence but these people are generally educated and their views do not support the talibans views of locking women up at home, discouraging education for all esp women, banning western clothes, forcing people to keep beards, and forcing women to wear face covers.
going on to the baloch belt - the baloch as a whole are more secular and they do not and wont allow religion to interfere with politics - the mullah's place is within the mosque only. in balochistan the zikris and sunnis live in peace and baloch natioalists, secularists and writers view them as equals - while in the rest of pakistan zikris could be seen as heretics and persecuted.
the norrth of balochistan is pashtun - even thoug that is very close to kandahar and theres some taliban activity there i dont think theres any record of them trying to take over, ban schools or anything like that. the main reason being the kinship system being strong has kept them out. in FATA - the system collapsed allowing the taliban to take over. in reality te balochistan pashtuns are more in line with taliban culture and more in line with pashtun culture - and the latter winning the struggle.
in the northern areas - the population is split ismaili, sunni, shia - there have been sunni shia clashes but so far no attempt for taliban to interfere - theywill be less welcome and less camouflaged out of the pashtun belt.
in NWFP mostly adults who voted - which was about 40% f the local ppulation - voted against religious parties. i doubt the remaining 60% support taliban type iislamic system. culturally nwfp is far too progressive for the taliban system towork - people are educated more than in afghanistan, people have more cosmpolitan lifestyles than afghanistan. the taliban system could only work in a country which was at the bottom of the rung. nwfp is a conservative society but theres no way the people would want to see a taliban take over as it would bring chaos in the form of uncle sam and its war machine.
even the more islamic people within nwfp are more progressive than the taliban lot.
its hard to say why the talibancan create such havoc in nwfp but one thing is clear - the security forces are not going after them with a full heart. it does appear as if the militants are givenmore than enough time to disappear. i do believe if the army wanted to it oculd have crushed themby now.
theres nothing wrong with having a n islamist revolution - in fact that could be better for us but the taliban brand of islam contradicts islam and that is the brand we want to see flushed out of pakistan.
the reality is that swaves of the army and intelligence establishment AND population (not majority, but enough) support this radical form of islam. the taliban are nothing without this backing, these people who are let my ideas of ideological state formation.
taliban are scum, but if government is not moving against them then they must suffer the consequences. why arent they forcing taliban into a hole, crushing them?
there is lack of political will!
pakistan will (sadly) have an islamist revolution one tehsil at a time unless someone wakes up and slaps those bearded ******** we all hate so much.
