Why there are more Christian in the world than Muslims?

Recently I was asked that why there are more Christians than Muslims?
Practicing and non practicing argument won’t fly because we have plenty on both sides.
As you know it has been more than 1400 years.
Here are the #s
Christians 33.03%
Muslims 20.12%

Because Europe's Christians controlled more of the world than Muslims from around 1500 onwards. They took over non-Christian/non-Muslim lands and flooded them with missionaries.

No Muslim country ever controlled or had sufficient influence in the Americas, souther Africa, and most of East Asia to send missionaries.

I think that means there are some ~47% of people who are NEITHER...so what's the point?

How about the fact that Christianity predates islam by 600+ years giving it more time to expand early on.

We're catching up fast though :)

And the fact that Emperor Constantine made Christianity the official Religion of the Roman Empire in 330 AD, so the whole of Europe, some parts of Middle East and North Africa Under Roman Rule, which had a population of 100 Million people became Christian.

And then those Christians spread their message to the Americas, Far East and Africa

It didn’t really expand much before Islam. Ethiopia, the mediterranean provinces and western Europe was basically all the lands that became Christian by the time Islam began to be spread.

and time is not always your friend, look at zoroastrians and jews, there were other religions that started and failed. there are religions that started after islam which dont have a huge following.

so while time can be a factor it is not the only factor.

Till the year 1492 christians were mainly limited to the tiny continent of Europe! Then they built large naval ships and sent expiditions to discover new lands! Ferdinend and Isablella sent Chritopher Columbus to discover eastward route to India! Instead he discovered Americas! Incidently 1492 is the year when Muslim rule came to en end in Andalusia and Abdullah gave up to Ferdinend and Isabella!

It was indeed science behind success of Europeans! They now occupy the most fertile and full of other natural resoucres areas of the world!

They have lots of crazy missionaries that are very persuasive, and we don't. They go to different countries, and little villages, and do nice things like deliver health care, etc. Then they guilt trip people into converting. One of my good friends is a staunch Christian, and you know what my holiday gift is going to be? Looks like a pretty leather bible with my name engraved on it.

Muslims don't do stuff like that.

Mercenay2k! Our junior member has by no means asked a dumb question! This is indeed a very interesting and important question.

1492 was the year that changed the entire secnario of the world! The whites and christians who were living in the europe only spread all over the world!
More due to their secentific and technologocial advancememt! More importantly they began to segregate clery and politics! Yet they were able to convert organic matter of North America, South America and Australia into white and christians!

Now they are heading towards space! You can imagine where they are going to?

But what about Muslims? Where they are heading to?

thats a bad analogy sir, jews and zorastrians dont spread their message through missionaries and kings(sword). Only the late entry religions are too protective about the numbers.:)

The probability of entire mankind embracing one religion is a fraction-in-infinity. Variety is a spice of life.

Actually its not 1492 but 1453 which changed the world.

In 1453, the Byzantine Empire, the vestage of the Eastern Roman Empire fell to the Ottoman Empire. Then the Ottoman blockaded all trade to India as they controlled the Bosphorous and the Suez area. Since europeans wanted to trade with India and China to get spice and silk.

The Europeans started going down to Africa and tried sailing around Africa which led to Europeans colonizing Africa. Columbus proposed to sail to the Atlantic to reach India.

1492 may be the year that Columbus discovered America which coincided with the Islamic World being pushed of the Iberian Peninsula.

But what set all this in motion was 1453, the Fall of Constantinopole and the subsequent blockade of trade which forced Europe to find other routes to reach China and India and hence their discovery of the New World
