You will get used to it :) just like you did with the previous one.
Some of the stuff will be brought be to be like in the previous versions.
So have patience till all the changes are implemented.

yes, unless its private then only buddylist members can see it. 
nothing has changed in respect to the after the upgrade.

I thought friends/contacts were buddies … because from Blog control panel, it directed me to the friends/contacts list.

If you add a contact, it automatically becomes friend... Unchecking the friend option (or vice versa) results in deletion of user from the list...
so there seems to be no way that both can be set mutually exclusive from each other?

OK..
You can actually add people as a contact... I just checked it again... but from the list of friends, it does not let it check/uncheck..
ggggrrrrrr.... it will take time for things to get settelled down :D

if you uncheck a friend, then it also unchecks the contact, thinking you want to remove the member completely.
then if needed, you can again check the contact box, and save the settings afterwards, which will remove the friend, but still keep contact in the list..
though you cannot keep friend and delete the contact.
