Re: Why the Current Mid-East peace plan will collapse
Well the stubborness is on both sides. Israel has this insatiable hunger for land grabs, settlements, and control. They have been expanding settlements in the west bank even as they speak of getting out of Gaza. The current so called cease fire is just a common sense act, which has basically arisen from the fact that both sides are tired and need a breather. Other than that, this meeting did not bring about anything new, and there have been no concessions made by Israel whatsoever, even though it is the occupying party. The moves/decisions made in the egypt summit were pretty bland…‘we will stop if they stop’. You dont even need a summit to have that occur. The core issues still remain…the occupation, Israels insistence on keeping settlements in west bank, east jerusalem, refugees who were displaced in order to make way for jews. The common sense solution to these issues is very clear, and there is no other way around it. However, Israel wants to avoid these issues, hoping they will just die out maybe in a generations time. But unfortunately, they will not die out any time soon, and hence, I sadly agree with Abdullah, that this so called peace plan will collapse sooner or later.
Right. The oslo accords called for a cessation to all kinds of settlement building. That continued.
The oslo accords called for Israels complete withdrawal from Gaza and Jericho in west bank within 5 years of the accords. That process never even began.
I could go on…there are plenty of security council resolutions gathering dust as well..but that would be a waste. Israel considers the UN bigoted. I agree with them. After all, this is the same UN that initiated the creation of Israel.
