Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

Why the 2007 World Cup is the Worst:

1 - Pakistan and India are out in the first round

2 - Pakistani Cricket Coach is murdered

3 - 2 Pathetic teams (Bangladesh and Ireland) by fluke make it to second round, ruining epic clashes of major teams such as India vs Pakistan

4 - Rain Delays have shortened many matches

5 - Allegations of Match Fixing and Doping are plaguing the Games

6 - Terrible, unfinished and small stadiums has made scoring very high inflating the numbers and old records are being demolished when they should have stand.

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

Shouldn't #2 be #1 considering you call it a murder.

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that there is something wrong with the WC format.
I mean....it just takes one fluke performance by a minnow to get into the Super 8 at the expense of a heavy-weight team...and once in the Super8... the 'minnow' gets to play 7 more games. In ODIs where flukes are rampant - such format is quite unreasonable.
Yes, India/Pak were pathetic, but they aren't nearly as pathetic as a team as Ireland/BD.

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

It is the most boring of all the 9 world cups, held so far.

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

The only format should be 10 top teams competing in a round robin group. I can bet you no minnow will ever make it to semi-finals. This Super 8 has failed twice in a rwo now. In 2003 Kenya made it to semifinals and now Ireland in the next phase. How can you be a world cup winner without playing two previous world cup champions - India and Pakistan?

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

I think what they should do, instead of 4 Groups of 4 Teams, have 2 Groups of 8 Teams.

For Example:

Group 1 will have:

England
New Zealand
Kenya
Canada
Pakistan
West Indies
Zimbabwe
Ireland

Group 2 will have:
Australia
South Africa
India
Sri Lanka
Bangladesh
Bermuda
Holland
Scotland

And then each team will play each other and the top 4 teams will advance.

So total number of games that Each team will play in Round 1 will be 7. That is plenty of games to shake of the rust and perform.

Then in the next Round, the top 4 Teams from each group will advance.

The 8 teams will be ranked according to Points, so for example

Australia
South Africa
New Zealand
Pakistan
India
Sri Lanka
West Indies
England

Then all teams will play the teams from the opposing group. The teams which accumulate the most points advance.

So for example:

Australia will play: Pakistan, West Indies, New Zealand and England

So, the top 4 teams with the most points advance to the semi-finals

So for example:
Australia
South Africa
India
Pakistan

so it will be for example

Australia vs Pakistan

South Africa vs India

and then the finals:

Australia vs south africa

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

^only without your ideas at the bottom and more like the old WCs.

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

I am not as irritated by BD's presence in the Super 8 as I am by Ireland's.
Ireland sucks as a team, regardless of the great things others may be saying about them.
Even in their match against Pak, they huffed and puffed to get to 120 runs. Their whole batting revolves around one guy and one guy alone...the O'Brian dude.

Having said that, I think Ireland-BD Super 8 match will be the match of the World Cup.

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

Great and they should reserve 6 month for a worldcup.

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

This is probably the best approach. Number of games will probably be same as what we have in WC'07 and will clear the weed easily.

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

has there ever been a world cup in the past where both big teams like Pakistan and India have gone out right in the first round and that too beaten by minnow teams? There’s just something way too fishy about this world cup. I can’t put my finger on it.
Is it all just a big coincidence?
I like Bangladesh as a team and they played well against India but why was it that the Indian fielders kept dropping every single ball. Believe me, I kept count. Were they all just having a bad day or were all they’re hands in some pain at the same time. Did they not eat a good breakfast that day to make them seem so weak that they couldn’t even catch a ball? There’s just way too much politics involved I think.:grumpy:

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

I think it was all due to the Indian media hype…remember the headlines on Indian meida that the Indian team is having nightmares about one of the BD medium fast bowler…and all other related headlines…it was too much.

I think that was the main reason but you are more then welcome to speculate

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

Definetely the most boring World cup I have seen.

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

1 reason I will state is that the crowd (those hippdy-hop ppl of Carrrrrrrabian) is missing from the games. Much have to do with that they are banned to bring things (music instruments) and other things as well. ICC need to re-work their strategy for the next world Cup.

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

^ Because your teams are out...Isn't it?...Pathetic!

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

not really, the number of games played in total will be:

7 in first round
4 in second round
1 in semi-final
1 in final

total number of games that a team plays to become world champion is 13

right now it is,

3 in first round
6 in second round
1 in semi-final
1 in final

total is: 11

so only 2 more games are being played by the team which becomes world champion and if those 2 extra games are enough to shake off the rust then so be it

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

I am sure you are fascinated by all the nail-biting and suspenseful Super-8 games going on right now. Wow! what close matches. All teams are so evenly matched. Its just fabulous. Ireland and Bangladesh should be given full test status based on their superlative performance. Oh, so Bangla already has test status? Nevermind, give them the full status, again! And West Indies should be promoted in ODI rankings to #1 or #2. What a fantastic team! World Cup ko chaar chaand laga diyay hein in sabb teams ne mill ke. wah wah!! We can't take our eyes away from the screen. When is the next match?

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

^^ all of this could have been resolved if in the 1st round, teams play more games which allows to shake off their rust and shorter number of games in the 2nd round.

instead of the current format of playing few games in the 1st round which means a good team defeated by a fluke by a bad team dooms the good team like pakistan and india

and more games in the 2nd round where bad teams play good teams and makes the games very less suspenseful

I think the ICC should implement my format

2 Groups of 8 Teams.
Each team plays each other with a single team playing 7 games.
The top 4 Teams from both groups advance to the next round.
There each team plays teams from the opposing group, for a total of 4 games that a single team plays.
The top 4 teams advance to the semi-finals with the team with the most points playing the team with least.

Total number of games a team needs to play to win the world cup is 13

With

7 Games in 1st round
4 Games in 2nd round
1 in Semi-final
1 in Final

as opposed to the current format

3 Games in 1st round
6 Games in 2nd round
1 in Semi-final
1 in Final

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

To be honest, even the last world cup was quite crap considering Kenya were in the semis. The quality of the tournament peaked in 1999, and I really hope the next cup would be much better (the crowds will be better, that's for sure).

Re: Why the 2007 Cricket World Cup is the Worst

its politics... there isnt real game left! thats all.
