Why some?

mayb its a habit..nd wrtng 4rom OR from---- i get the point, its not lost 2 me. is ur neglish that weak that u get confused at such abbrvns?

Re: Why some?

^not really...like i said, its one thing if u write like this if u went to school in pak, it's another if you went to school in north america and still manage to sound like an illiterate.

its just a discussion forum, its not a showy competition. i dont come here 2 convince ppl of how literate and educated i am and neither does any1 else in this forum. u just want 2 do maukabla baazi on every topic.

Re: Why some?

i know its crazy infact when i wuld say sumthing wrong here in pak every one wuld look at me like im phathetic i grew up in germany with that accent sumtimes i cant get sum english pronounciating rite but i guess english is really really important for desis

I have to agree with Sara on this one. Its harder to read your posts when half the words have letters chewed up by chipmunks. Honestly I had to think for a few seconds what "4rom" was. Maybe you don't see it as an issue because you know what you are talking about. However your point does get lost if we skip the post altogether. Don't accuse us of bad english when you are the one not writing it accurately and skipping every other letter in a word.

i did not accuse a guppan of bad english(which by the way was not u but heh if u wanna join the bandwagon b my guest). i was pointing out that its was being made an issue 4 no good reason. ppl who know a language really well will still undrstnd tht lnug in shrt 4rms(i ilearnt that in linguistics class by the way with like a dozen studies done on it so dunt evn try argue on that 1).. but the guppette complaint was more bout how abbrvn wrtng sounds(unsophisticated or wtvr she said) nd less bout comprehension. i responded that i dont care what it sounds like since i dont have 2 prove anything 2 any1, especially not on GS forum..the point is does the reader understand?

YES, they do and can tell that they do by the way in which they respond 2 my posts.

mayb u have a hard time cause ur english was weak 2 begin with.. u r landed immigrant, no? i thought so..so dont even try 2 argue with me bout english accuracy buddy. i know how 'accurate' landed immigrants english is when they come here fresh off the boat.

Take it easy. Even though you are saying that you don't have to prove anything, you go an extra mile to write such a long post in your defence. And I have to admit, I see an improvement in your english in every next post you write. Gradual but there is some. Hang out with us more and you will be a pro before you know it. My immigration status has nothing to with my writing skills. I knew how to spell "From" when I was in KG. By the way, 4rom and From have same number of letters and it doesn't save you time like you claim.

hahaaaa..yeah..thats what all you tight pant, printed shirt wearing deodorant avoiders say!

And thats all you have to say... Glad you realized that you are probably better off keeping it this way.

The truth is, you don't know didly-squat about me. And hey, you didn't write an "abrvtn" in your post. Congrats.

Re: Why some?

:smack: Such a good topic and so much off the track now :emmy: Well I have felt one thing about GS and I would honestly relate it here. A few people here I dont know why tend to be quite irritating, mocking and discouraging towards the novices. Im not nominating anyone here; but this is just the spirit going on. These very much people will be quite cheeky to you once you have spent considerable time floating on the GS. Then why so gross with the new comers who would rather need your very much help to feel comfortable. Very very few people actually I found here who are not full of vanity and who do not carry holier than thou attitude. Khair.

Coming back to the topic: I would honestly tell you that I find it really really gross when find someone speak wrong language. Well, written expression is something else. That is curable since the person might not be knowing their mistakes. But those who know they aint well versed and yet they meddle with the language. Especially with the accent. They tend ot follow the American accent and heck. I just hate it  Imagine someone isnt even good at the proper syntax of the language and they are twisting their jaws, gritting their teeth only in order to show they are so how westernised :silly:

Necessity is something else; like you dont know the language yet you have to use it in order to interact. Its very much fine. This is how people learn… but knowing you cant do justice and go fair with the language and yet fiddle… is gross..It be any .. :bummer: Like Im not quite good and fluent at my mother tongue, so I just abstain from speaking in it unless its really necessary like in matter of convo with those who cant speak in Urdu. Becuase I find it an insult of a language when spoken wrongly. I wouldnt mind it anyway if someone is honestly and sincerely trying to speak in a foreing language and would rather help, if needed.
