Why so green?

By far the stupidest things I have seen humans utter have come from the mouths of religious people and staunch athiests (and believe me I have heard a lot, I have flirted with nearly every belief system). It’s amazing that they can’t get past the preaching to realize that the fanatically religious Muslim, the fanatical Hindu, the Bible thumper, and my athiest professor who at every moment he had attacked organized religion are ALL THE SAME. It’s pathetic and funny for the observer to watch them. What is wrong with them? A lot of the time theyare ****ty Muslims, are they trying to transfer all of their anxieties about hell onto you? Do they genuinely care about your hide on fire after you die? They are so convinced they are right that during an argument, if you disagree with them, they think they you are attacking your beliefs.

Here are some keepers I have encountered.

  1. You must not read any Hindu, Tao etc texts, all the guidance provided is in Islam. Okay, so should I just invalidate the existence of a huge chunk of this world’s people? Anyway, they all say much of the same thing. And I don’t think Allah is the jealous kind.

  2. You must not do yoga as MEDITATION. Islam gives you all the meditation you need. If you must do yoga, call it excercise. Okay, but reading about hellfire does naught for my stress levels. Besides I read that yoga tones your uterus or something, and I’d rather do something proactive than pray for the health of my uterus.

  3. Islam says only Muslims should be given zakat. But they expound on this so damn literally that I just feel like killing myself, the argument is torture beyond belief.

  4. There are no sects in Islam. I believe in no sects. We are all Muslims. I call myself a Muslim. But no, I wouldn’t marry a Shia. I might marry a Shia but I’ll show them the “right path”.

Stupid ideologies imposing boundaries between humanity. Islam is a religion about love first and foremost, not high blood pressure, pulpits, and the us vs. them mentality.

Re: Why so green?

Hmmmmmmm...read Al-Quran first...

Re: Why so green?

Wow, sarah...you speak sense. Great observation btw.

Re: Why so green?

Reminds me of the thread Mamaof3 opened up in religion about some fanatical mullah in Kashmir condemning all Kashmiris who died in the earthquake to hell.

But then we are all hypocrites in some way or another :(

Re: Why so green?

Ya this reminds me once I was watching some indian movie with one of my cousins as soon as the paooja thing started, she started forwarding the scene and her reason was "Bhajan sunay say gharr main nahosat a jati hai" ...

One more thing I have noticed among desis (extremely religious ones), they think it is haram talking or looking at a desi man because they are non mehram but they are all fine in front of non desis as if they are their mehrams.

yup stupid ideologies which we will never get rid off.....

Re: Why so green?

Most of us are imperfect muslims solely because we dont know our religion well. I would rather learn about Islam first than learn and read about other religious texts. It’s a matter of priority. Nothing against other religious texts. BTW, if you claim yourself to be a muslim, then you should believe that all the guidance IS provided in islam. How by saying that does one invalidate the “existence” of other people?

What is so figurative about the statement which says Zakat should only be given to muslims. No one preventing you from giving voluntary charity to non-muslims, but just not Zakat --which is mandatory. Zakat is not obligatory on non-muslims, so why should they receive it when they dont have to pay it? Does the US tax payer give welfare to chinese citizens?

Anyone who claims that there should be no sects in islam is a uniter, not a divider. How does that espouse an us. vs. them mentality?

Re: Why so green?

its very sad isnt it Ms Sarah? I wont say more because i'd get too mean, I'm really angry at some of the posters hereabouts. I just keep reminding myself that they are the exception rather than the rule. Islaam itself is a beautiful, accepting and tolerant religion. Its "most" faithful are not always so.

Re: Why so green?

^
have u perfected the ins and outs of your own religion that you are now on a crusade to perfect islam?

Re: Why so green?

Good post SarahSplendor.

the Prophet (saw) asw Umar (ra) reading a paper from Torah and was angry with him that once the Quran has come as guidance why r u reading Torah....
stupid words coming from religious people - people dont get more religious than Muhammad (saw).....

** 3) Islam says only Muslims should be given zakat. But they expound on this so damn literally that I just feel like killing myself, the argument is torture beyond belief.**

Zakat is an obligation which is meant only for muslims....
for others there is sadaqa....
or have u never heard of sadaqa????
hadith says that Muhammad (saw) says every thing that breathes is legibile for sadaqa....

Re: Why so green?

^^ I agree..

Re: Why so green?

.....

Re: Why so green?

^ o yes, Muhammad (saw) never thought that knowing what is in the Torah wud be good to know what he is up against....
perhaps he needed much smarter advisors like urself, who know better about thigns than Muhammad (saw)....

Re: Why so green?

Re: Why so green?

Understanding of other religions only makes you a stronger muslim because it makes you understand what you believe. And its not like its haram to read hindu scriptures, right?

Re: Why so green?

^ which is better for you ?
Learning even one ayah of the Quran, or memorizing the entire Torah?
Since we are venturing in the realm of religion, what do you think is better for you, again?
two rakat nafl salaat, or a chapter in bhgavat Gita?

Re: Why so green?

two blessings, sys the Prophet (saw), ppl do not make good use of, good health and spare time....
as dope mentioned, mke good use of ur spare time....

Re: Why so green?

no ones sayin that u shud pass over Islam or namaz or Quran for something else, but rather just reading it… as it is i dont evne hav an interest in non-Islamic things so this doesnt really affect metoo much but I still dont think that reading for education is wrong.. now if they read for enlightenment or spiritual fulfilment, then yes thats wrong..

Re: Why so green?

ppl don't have time to understand islam and here they are freting about gaining knowledge about others religions to understand their own religion much better. i wonder how can you understand islam by learning more about hinduism or christianity or whatever? can u state 1 example where learning the virtues of hinduism has helped u to become a better muslim? i know their movies help u ppl a lot to replace Allah with Bhagwan, Quran with Gita, and hanuman with muhammad. where exactly does this all fit in for a good muslim?
