I alway hear and read everywhere that when trying to lose weight, you should drink diet soda (Coke/Fanta etc) at all, as it can hinder weight loss… why is this? This seems to be counter-intuitive no?
Re: Why shouldn’t you drink diet sodas when trying to lose weight?
Firstly, fizzy drinks can impede weight loss in several ways… people think that by switching to the diet version of a certain fizzy drink will aid your weight loss, but in fact, some scientists have proven that sugar substitutes can have a weight gain effect in the longer term…
Also, aspartame, a sweetener which is present in many of these diet carbonated drinks, makes you HUNGRIER! In fact, i read somewhere that Aspartame in particular is broken down by the body into some pretty nasty stuff that is deposited in our tissues… ![]()
Also, carbonated drinks, especially their diet counterparts, can cause really bad bloating…
that’s interesting, I know that there are some links between aspartame and certain cancers but not that it makes you hungrier… Is the increased appetite the only reasons diet drinks cause weight gain? It just seems so against logic!
But apparently it can cause diabetes too because your body is tricked into producing insulin when you drink a sweetened drink but it can’t find any sugar and a build up of insulin leads to resistance (the definition of type II diabetes!)
