I completely disagree that the senior-most player should be the captain. Some people have leadership talent and some don't. Seniority is not and should not be the sole criteria. This is cricket, not soccer. Role of captain is extremely important as he has to make many real-time decisions on the field - often without much advice from others. Not everyone can be a good cricket captain, even if they play 100 tests.
Anyway, Sa1eem bhai jaan... I share your pain that you are endlessly crucified on KK forum. Aap ke liyay aik asaan solution hai. In all cricket discussions, you just agree with me 100%. Then all problems solved. Everyone here will do wah wah, and you will live happily ever after. :D
leave all the cricketing performaces to the national coach...like selection of players...appointing the captain and vice captain from the squad he selected for a certain series/trip...and choosing his assistants...like bowling...batting...fielding...discipline...health and diet etc...
While I do know what you're saying that's just a recipe for nepotism, favouritism and cronyism.
I think the most senior player should be offered the captaincy...think about why he becomes a senior player...
The captain and vice captain should be appointed for a single series or for a single trip...if he perform well then he should be appointed for the next series/trip...or make place for someone else...
PS: PCB is a bunch of idiots...they should restrict themselves to administrative work only...and leave all the cricketing performaces to the national coach...like selection of players...appointing the captain and vice captain from the squad he selected for a certain series/trip...and choosing his assistants...like bowling...batting...fielding...discipline...health and diet etc...
Zaby, the Baseball coaching philosophy can't be applied to Cricket. The Captain is the one responsible to lead them on the field and he is the one who decides the "plays" or strategy in bowling or fielding not the coach. The coach helps in team meeting to strategize. However the Captain and the rest of 10 players are responsible to a great deal. The coach's reponsibility is limited.
Base ball has no captain, and its the coach who decides the plays and strategy completely according to how the game progresses. He studies each player in the opposing team and tells his pitchers how and what to throw. He tells which fielder to take a chance on when running between bases or trying to steal bases.
Come to think of it, any body interested in baseball...:D
