There a lot of suspicious decisions made by PCB. This is nothing new. But dropping Afridi from Test is a blunder.

With bozos like Iqbal and Hameed playing and players like Rao, Rehman in contention, there is no excuse not having a proven match winner in the squad.

^ i agree, but then when hes playing and fails in his batting theres equally vocal calls for him not to be there.
in theory we should have a specialist for the slots rehman/hameed/faisal iqbal/rao etc fill. in practice i bet shahid afridi would add more value to those slots than any of them.

I thought Shahid Afridi made himself unavailable for tests. The reasons for which I am not sure. I do recall that he had asked selectors not to consider him for the current test series.
May be he doesn't like Shoaib Malik as captain and said ODI is ok, but I can't take orders from Malik for 5 days in a row; or may be Afridi doesn't like the long format of the game and the toll it takes on the body. A spinner pretty much has to bowl for long spells throughout the day on unsupporting pitches against batsmen who play spin better than many. Or may be selectors/captain told him he is not needed in the test series because we are filled to the brim with attacking spinners. Oh well, as I said, I don't know the real reason why he opted out, but from a public record standpoint, he opted out.

When I had read that back then, I seem to recall it said "he has asked selectors not to consider him for test cricket", period. He wanted to focus on ODI's and his fitness. Not sure if he made himself available for Indian tests or not. I suspect not, otherwise he'd be playing right now.

Afridi made himself unavailable for the South African home series because of Ramadan.
His omission has been a real a surprise for me during this series. No one has talked openly about his omission which has been more surprising and indicating something fishy. I think Afridi could have been a difference in this series which Pakistan is about to lose and I am sure PCB also realized that while making that decision. Apparently he was dropped because of his lack of form which was nothing but bull$hit. I found this article in Khaleej Times last month when Afridi was dropped.
