Weekly Satribune has published the detailed account why Saudi Arabia has cancelled its US$ 2 Billion yearly free of cost oil to Pakistan. The weekly alleges that Moin Afzal (Finance Division) and Hafeez Pasha (Adviser) leaked this secret information to IMF. The then Commerce Minister Ishaq Dar now says it put Nawaz Sharif into awkward position. Nawaz rectified the situation and with disgrace dismissed Moin Afzal. General Musharraf brought Moin back.
On completion of first year of General Musharraf’s rule a Saudi newspaper in its lead Editorial wrote that Chief Executive Pakistan General Musharraf appears to be following same policies of Nawaz Sharif. The Editor quoted one example. The example quoted was of same Moin Afzal. It said that General Musharraf on TV told the nation that due to giving wrong financial figures to IMF, Pakistan was imposed a penalty of US Dollar five billions which now on extending apologies by his government had been reduced to US dollars 5 million. The newspaper mentioned that those wrong figures to IMF were prepared by Finance Division when Moin Afzal was Secretary Finance Division. This caused according to General Musharraf US dollar 5 billion (reduced to million) loss but General Musharraf had promoted the same Moin Afzal from Secretary to Secretary General. The newspaper in the editorial stated the same was policy of Nawaz Sharif of awarding and appointing previously corrupt people and General was doing the same following Nawaz.
Keeping in view the above quoted Saudi newspaper example, it appears Satribune report and its allegation must be true.
