Why religions are boring ?

I have observed that Artists don’t show interest in religion for long time …

Mostly they are not interested in religion at all.

By Artist, I mean all the people who belong to any form of art ; not just film, tv but poets, painters, designers, fiction writer etc.

They are generally good people but never take religion seriously.

Re: Why religions are boring ?

Peace Code_Red

Well if they don't take religion seriously then I can't see why religion is boring ... it should be a source of entertainment for them ...

Apologies I'm playing with words .... Art has become divorced from religion for some reason ... look at the various Islamic art in the older world ... think of the period calligraphy, architecture, colours, qur'an recitations, anasheed, poerty ... the list is endless ... today we have made religion like a "stick" to beat people with ...

Re: Why religions are boring ?

Peace,

I think 'Faith' comes first then 'Profession'. I mean the artist, before becoming a professional artist, he/she do believe in his/her religion and religion comes by learning/practicing same as by repeatedly practicing of art he/she become a well-known artist.

Re: Why religions are boring ?

Arts is a very broad term. Any form of expression that is appreciated by others is known as arts today. I believe that individual can adjust their artistic expression and appreciation to the rules of life outlined in Islam. Such art is beautiful and still very much alive in countries such as Iran, Turkey, Egypt (of the Muslim countries I have been to). Artists are people just like us and can be religious or non-religious. Have you ever watched movies directed by Majid Majidi, Abbas Kiorastami?

The conflict however seems to be emanating from certain sector within Muslims. For example, my country of birth, i.e. Saudi Arabia, seems to think that almost all forms of expressions must eventually lead to shirk. Therefore almost every symbols related to even the Prophet of Islam is destroyed. Ironically though the same brigade does not have much problem with the symbols of modern-capitalism such as the high new skyscrapers, rows of shopping malls and miles of cement-fronted flats. This form of thinking- dry Islam, or stick Islam as Psyah called it- has been exported to Afghanistan and Pakistan for quite some time now and the results are are in front of the world to see.

Re: Why religions are boring ?

Peace all

I guess some religions can by funny.

[Insert some religion name] is a funny religion.

It might be a derogatory statement for the followers of that particular religion. But again whats wrong with Comedy of Errors ?

It is true that some period civilizations promoted several forms of art under the patronage of several religions.

There are other serious artists who mean some serious business. i.e story writer, Poets who write some passionate stories, furious poems and they are the master of their art. They keep themselves isolated from religions. I don't understand their ideology of this distance

Re: Why religions are boring ?

There are seriously talented philosophers, politicians, doctors, engineers, teachers, sports person, who too keep themselves isolated from religions. What is your point?

Re: Why religions are boring ?

Ah ... I think I understand what the question is now ...

Are you asking why "Religions don't go out of their way to make their adherents entertained/humoured"

It sort of depends on your disposition ... Many scholars are amused and very much thrilled with the religions they follow ... the same form of entertainment is just not understood by the masses of any religion or group.

In fact ... the Roman emperors noticed that statecraft was boring to the masses ... so they created the gladiator arena in order to thrill, humour and entertain people. It would keep them occupied.

I think having fun religions depends on the "nufs" the "nufs" is naturally drawn towards ease and avoids difficulty, but wisdom teaches us that struggle and hard work is more rewarding ... our "nufs" tells us to go for the easy gains, but wisdom tells us otherwise. The "nufs" tells us that we should enjoy ourselves and wisdom tells us that we should learn how to "enjoy ourselves doing hard work and noble deeds" ...

Re: Why religions are boring ?

Religions are boring? Not to the disbelievers! As a matter of fact, we find them all so goddamn comical...

Re: Why religions are boring ?

I have observed that Artists don’t show interest in sex for long time …

Mostly they are not interested in sex at all.

By Artist, I mean all the people who belong to any form of art ; not just film, tv but poets, painters, designers, fiction writer etc.

They are generally good people but never take sex seriously
, does it mean sex is boring subject ? :konfused:

Re: Why religions are boring ?

I never take sex seriously ... just imagine that ... I think only rapists take sex seriously.

Re: Why religions are boring ?

Hain? There’s so much material on this subject, perhaps you haven’t looked (?)

As for taking it seriously, it’s not published in serious magazines, newspapers, and whatnot only because it’s an easil offensive subject and much a taboo in most societies.

Re: Why religions are boring ?

They take the act of sex seriously but not the consequences of their actions.
But we are talking about the subject of sex as the OP intended for subject of religion. OP is pointing to subject of religion being boring for artists and based on the reason that it is not touched by many artists , same can be said about sex that it is not touched by many artists so it got to be boring for them.

Re: Why religions are boring ?

Hain ? then there is so much material on the subject of religion perhaps you and OP did not look at the right places.

Re: Why religions are boring ?

Assuming again? Sex comes to us naturally. Religion is learned. Sex is inevitable whereas religion is still much of a choice.. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sex and religion are two very different topics!! :smack:

Re: Why religions are boring ?

How does it prove that one is a boring subject for artists and the other is not ?

Re: Why religions are boring ?

I didn't say either one is a boring subject but with religion, there's a good chance that they will offend someone. Poets/artists have been murdered in the name of GOD for expressing their feelings about religion in a form of art. Should they be exempt from punishment for expressing a mere interest in a certain religion? Does religious artwork have to be positive in order to be appreciated and encouraged? Yes it does...unfortunately. Or you will end up dead like Theo van Gogh

Re: Why religions are boring ?

Religion is a subject ; so it can’t entertain you in essence for a long period of time.

Ruler can do this and they did this under the silver lining of religion. Mughal 's marvel scattered all over the subcontinent. Taj , Shalamar etc. Alhamra , Masjid Qartaba (cordoba) in Spain and numerous other architecture wonders.

So, in short Rulers with a fine sense of art do act as a bridge between artists and religion.

noble deeds are not always inter-dependent on hard work. Nazis got fed up killing jews, so the invented gas chambers. Same way hard work is no entertainment either. Its job. religion is not a job.

One of my favorite story teller and literary icon of Urdu Literature used to say always in the end of his talks …
*
Allah Apko Asaaniyaan Ata farmaye, our logon main Asaaniyaan takseem karney ka sharaf ata farmaye. ameen *

Ashfaq Ahmed (d. Sep 07, 2004) May Allah bless his soul.

You are altogether wrong here my friend.

Sex is not a subject. It is a form of Art. ref. Kama Sutra p 57-157

Any form of art can be boring and entertaining depending on artistic sense of viewer/ observer.

You find sex boring, I find it entertaining for a time being.

Religion is a subject.
