I think it may have to do with lifestyle also. In USA life is just so very busy to the point of craziness. When you are striving to move up the corporate ladder, your workweeks are very long, vacations very short. Most cannot afford household help. Most people dont have the time anymore.
So it may not truly be that they are snubbing you Ume...they may just be too caught up in the "rat race" yeah?
