whats the background for the more religous nature of pashtuns compared to rest of pakistanis. they offer 5 times prayer while kashmiris, punjabies etc offer only jumma prayers. also most of jihadis and tablighis r them.
Re: why pashtuns r religous?
my dads religious & really strict

I think that this is a pretty outrageous statement. Pakhtuns tend be culturally conservative, but I have seen pious Muslims of all ethnic groups.
yes, I am Pakhtun and I pray 5 times a day...but lets not insult any groups of people. May we all follow the right path of Al-Islam

You need to visit all the mosques in every part of Pakistan before making this statement ..They are alhamdulillah all full.
Re: why pashtuns r religous?
I would say, its the ultra conservative nature of the pathans. Most Pakistani mainly Punjabis are pretty secular.
Re: why pashtuns r religous?
I dunt agree with the statement that only pathans r religious, but if we do compare i guess pathans shld have a good percentage of people who are religious. I belive thats bcoz they didnt adopt the modern society as time changed, not that they are behind in technology, but other things like dressing will be a perfect example..... If guys refuse to wear T ****s in NWFP then there is no way girls wud demand to wear Tank Tops.
Nothing particular about Pashtuns.
Tribals are generally more superstitious, and hence more dependent on the holy man, supporting big mustache and big long beard.
More civilized people are less superstitious, and thus less dependent on holy man or holy books. You will also find that more civilized people are less inclined towards big mustache and big long beards.
These are general rules applicable to majority of tribals and majority of civilized people. You will always find exceptions to the above rule.

you are correct. Tribalism is not limited to one ethnicity in Pakistan.
Case in point.
For the longest time Jamat Islami used to win almost all of their seats from Karachi. That may make someone say that Karachites are more religious.
This statement of yours, puts you in the league of arrogant/maghroor people. So you know, the one who you are praying to, i.e Allah(SWT) ,does not like any kind of gharoor let alone religious gharoor. ![]()
Ditto Mirch. There is no need divide us into such small groups- pasthun, punjabis, karchiiites and give them labels. It’s stupid. Pakistan is really small as it is, we don’t need to put our OWN selves down. Every group has religious people and non religious people.
Many of the most famous Desi scholars hail from a VARIETY of backgrounds- Maulana Taqi Usmani, Ashraf Ali Thanvi, Yusuf Islahi, and on an on.
Re: why pashtuns r religous?
I think Pakhtuns are entirely different group from rest of the Pakistanies. Other three major languagues of Pakistan resemeble each other - Sindhi, Balouchi and Punjabi but Pushto is entirely different. And it is said that Pakhtuns were jews before turning to Islam i.e. they were not pagans unlike other Pakistanies. (They say they are the lost 12th tribe of jews).
Re: why pashtuns r religous?
what were they before they became jews?
Re: why pashtuns r religous?
If we go by religious history, they were jews since the beginning otherwise they were also pagans or without any religion.

Really amazing
can u tell /history more about it if they were jews?

u guys got it all wrong, took it in a wrong way
what i was trying 2 say was that i dont speak pushto
and that i dont know pushto or understand it
yeah im religious yeah i pray 5 times a day
I myself am Pashtoon / pathan, but I feel being pathan doesn't have any influence on my beliefs. Our religion doesn't teach us to consider such assumptions on the basis of language, colour, regions...etc. There might be people who would like to generalize that Pathans are more inclined towards homosexuality compared to kashmiris, punjabies etc..but they are also equally wrong. No group can be categorized to be good or bad on the basis of few examples. Even if in our area apparently the majority behaves in a certain manner, it doesn't mean it happens that way universally.
Such topics lead to differences among Muslims. The only criteria our religion teaches us to grade a person is "Taqwa" plus love and fear of Allah (swt). Nothing else.
Considering the reaction of people in this thread, it seems it won't be appropriate to let this topic move further. I hope my fellow mods agree to my perspective. Also I would request my fellow mods to re-open this thread if they think it is appropriate to do so.
