It’s not because we have cold blooded killers among us that we are hated, they are in every society. It’s because our cold blooded killers are praised and supported by people for whatever reason that suits us.

Or maybe it’s because of the fact that the minority who supports such people gets way too much attention in the media. Meanwhile everyone who condems it is ignored.
