and why are we so bad…we have been bad forever…

pakistanis like to be in front (they are seedhay god fearing but lazy log), srilankans are best when they are behind working really hard. indians are somewhere in the middle on this matter and deal with matters as they come.
i hope that tremendous analysis helps, pd je. i bet you like a good chase too.

but as a nation (especially generations post 2000s) we are mentally weak, impatient, highly disorganized, selfish ...... we can only excel (if you call it excel) when it is a free flow, sort of chaos.. bring disciplined target into pic and we struggle...and will always struggle....because players come from the same people..
sri lankans love chasing....they are quiet, think logically, disciplined, educated, and i think mentally strong..every sri lankan team since early 90s is a phenomenal chaser...

i mean there cud be gazillion reasons but it is not technique or cricket related..i know that for sure..other wise every srilankan team cannot be a good chaser and every Pakistani team cannot be a pathetic chaser...

First Thing, they have master class like Tilak, Sanga and Mahela who take responsibilities and lead from the front.
Second, they are never rated much, no body cares about them and there is no hype built around them. You never see Srilankans thumping their chest for having malinga etc. Hence less pressure on them to perform.
Third, they never give self bragging statements before that games like i will cut through their batting lineup like a knife in butter, or he is my bunny, or this is my rating, and my butt is tighter than yours etc
Fourth, They play as a team, everyone supports each other and they never fight on the ground.
Fifth, is Srilankans are generally humble in nature. They do their job quietly instead of showing off.
Sixth, class is permanent form may be temperory. Sanga, tilak and mahela showed that they can click at the right moment despite of long failures.
Sixth, un ke paas Maa- (linga) hai :(

PS. I think you are over rating them, just one chase is not good enough to judge them positive or negative.

It is a game, game of luck sometime they are good and some time we think them pathetic chasers and that is because of opposite team played well.

I remember the days when we had sheet anchors in the shape of Javed Miandad. Then Inzi continued that a bit.
Those batsmen knew how to chase, they had the quality of technique, stroke play, cheeziness of taking singles and they did that by keeping an eye on the scoreboard (RRR).
In the new breed of batsmen (a) don't have good technique or (b) too new and not getting enough chances or constancy to develop into sheet anchors (Azhar Ali, Umar Amin, Asad Shafiq etc)
I think they are ok in mental toughness, its more about bam bam boom (fours and sixes) or just major technical flaws.
remember Good solid batters will learn to chase down score if they can also take quick singles and be smart at cricket. While bad technique or approach to batting will never allow a batter to get a big score let alone deliver the team.
