IBRAHEEM IBN ADHAM - may Allah have mercy on him - a third century scholar, a teacher and a companion of Sufyaan ath-Thawree, was asked about the saying of Allah - the Most High:
“AND YOUR LORD SAYS: 'CALL ON ME I WILL ANSWER YOUR PRAYER…” (Surah Ghaafir, Verse 60)
“We supplicate and we are not answered.” So he said to them:
"You know Allah, Yet you do not obey Hu,
You recite the Quran, Yet do not act according to it,
You know Shaitaan(Devil), Yet you have agreed with him,
You proclaim that you love the Messenger of Allah, (PBUH), Yet you abandon his Sunnah,
You proclaim your love for Paradise, Yet you do not act to gain it,
You proclaim your fear for the Fire, Yet you do not prevent yourselves from sins,
You say “Indeed death is true”, Yet you have not prepared for it,
You engage yourselves with finding faults with others, Yet you do not look at your faults,
You eat of that which Allah has provided for you, Yet you do not thank Him,
You bury your dead, Yet you do not take a lesson from it."

Exactly. Great post. The dua we can make are the duas that were made by Mohammad(pbh). He is the best example we can follow in gaining glory in this world and hereafter. May Allah help us understand Islam better in the light of QURAN and TRUE sunnah. Ameen.

Musalman I am sorry, I couldn’t find the chapter you quoted above… however please find below a similar verse.
*al-mo’min: 60 *
And your Lord says: ‘PRAY UNTO ME; I WILL ANSWER YOUR PRAYER. but those who are too proud to worship Me will surely enter Hell, despised.
subhaan allah, what a beautiful verse…
Allah is saying, ask Me and I will respond to your desires… I wish someone could feel the insight of these words…. very perceptive and quite self-explanatory.
On the other hand there is also a very important message for the people who think that it is obligatory to involve a third person for conveying the prayers, (like pirs, sufis, malangs, martyrs, caliphs, alhaybait and other great people) …. the verse clearly points towards the fact that there is no need for a mediator.

Ditto Zalim
Who says nothing is impossible? I've been doing nothing all my life!
Surah Ghaafir is also called Surah Al-Mumin or vice versa. In Islam, there is no concept of intermediary between the slave and ALLAH (SWT) like Christians and some other religions. Muslims communicate directly with ALLAH (SWT). NO pirs, sufis, malangs, martyrs, caliphs, alhaybait and other great people can be asked for any thing because ALLAH (SWT) alone has the power to accept or reject the supplications.
