The color orange is named after the fruit orange. So your question should be "Why isn't the color yellow called banana, If the color orange is called orange?"

In Arabic Orange is Bortuqaal - Funnily enough Bortuqaal is also the Arabic for Portugal which means the Arabs must have traded oranges from that region.
Other words may have equally interesting origins
- Santara
- Malta = in urdu is Orange and Malta is an island not too far from Portugal
