Urdu was made the national language of pakistan at the time of partition when the majority of the population 's mother tongue was bengali that created a rift between east pakistanis and west pakistanis. At that time only 4% percent of the population had urdu as their mother tongue. In 1971 when east pakistan became bangladesh.Urdu remained the national language of west pakistan presently paksitan.Only 8% of the population have urdu as their mother tongue which separates them from the 92% population who speak other languages.Other languages are neglected badly especially punjabi which is fading from the urban areas of punjab as well.
Urdu was made national language because it was considered to be the binding force the language through which people from one province can communicate to the people of other provinces but it it make the provinces closer or made them further apart because urdu is nver a language of this part of india very few can associate to it.I want to say that urdu should remain as the national language but with that regional languages should also be given the status of national languages we can have 6 or 7 languages as our national languages in this way we will have provincial harmony, education in the local language for the people living in the interiors of the country and it will also encourage literature in the country when local poets and writers will write in their languages.
when small country like switzerland can have 3 4 languages as the official/national language why not pakistan.
Re: Why Only Urdu As Our National Language???
Pakistan needs something to bind it together, first religion was the sole thing which united all the ethnicities, but in the future in the absence of religious zeal and fervour it will disintegrate if it's not become a nation by then, right now it’s only a multi-national state, it can’t survive if the regional nationalities/ethnicities are allowed to strenghthen.
I don’t know why we can’t just break it up, it’d be easier, it’s going to happen sooner or later anyway, as much as I hate to say this Pakistan has nothing down for it now, anyone who disagrees is very naïve.
Re: Why Only Urdu As Our National Language???
I disagree. I think Pakistan will have a better chance of survival if it recognises all the major languages as national languages. That way ethnic tension will no longer be a problem. The best way to deal with problems is to always nip them in the bud.
Re: Why Only Urdu As Our National Language???
Language alone cannot keep people integrated (Arabic, Persian, etc.). And there are countries with many national languages but still surviving (Switzerland).
