why oh why

Do you ever find yourself laughing or being non-serious in situations which a normal person would be crying/serious?

For instance i just cringed watching my Grandmas funeral video for the first time. At the jinazah i cried etc and then i hushed up and was reading when suddenly my cousin swung a camcorder in my face so i kinda smiled at him…and its caught on the funeral tape

Everyone was watching it, chacha, chachess, bhabis, cousins and its gona go all over the world and i’m SMILING on it

But apart from that why does that happen? I can hardly be serious when it’s required most!! I even began laughing in the ghusal chamber cuz some Aunties from the hood were wearing rubber gloves and aprons and were swaying left to right chanting loudly. I was in the middle of sobbing when they caught my eye n i began laughing and had to cover my mouth with a dupatta so they couldn’t see what i was up2 :frowning:

Do you guys find yourself doing silly, inexplicable things like that?

yes :p

Laughter can be a way to express yourself (or possibly momentarily escape) during grieving periods. I have never actually laughed while crying but I know of others who have. It’s healthy and normal! Don’t beat yourself up over it.

:flower1:

Seriously, you were videoing a funeral? Is it me, or is that weird?

Normally, people would shoot video on occassions they wana cherish later in life. Why would anyone film a janaaza?. :nono4: . Oh bhai, aakhri time tau araam say guzaarnay dau bicharay faut honay waalay ko.

:nono4:

I questioned it too. :) Although at my grandfather's funeral, photographs of his corpse were taken! Very strange .... but I guess it is just an attempt to hold an image of the last time the person was on earth.

is this a tradition of ur family?i have never heard of this before only heard of people making movies for weddings!

isnt this wrong?

LOL.

When my cousin pulled out a camcorder there was a HUGE gasp from all the ladies and a look of horror...so i get u guys.

My Gran went suddenly. She had a 100% clean bill of health even tho she was a century old. For her to collapse got us all by surprise and shock...her sons ( my Dad and his 4 bros ) just wanted something to remember her even tho it was the worst of her..

The video is kinda sad. There are lil bits of tape of her alive and laughing n then suddenly a corpse.

But anyhows, i like to have the video. When i miss her a lot i watch it, have a huge cry and then feel better.

Islamically i believe it is wrong. But my cousin who is hafiz-e-quran said it was fine...so i don't really know the Islamic position is and to be honest with you i would have done it regardless ( if i had been taping it ).

I find this very immature. Sorry I don't want to be rude, but I really did not know how else to say it, and you asked.

i once smiled at a funeral of someone whom i loved dearly

actually someone was doing something and my cousin laughed...

and then she was looking at me as we are very close and get into these laughing fits so she expected me to be her saathi at that time too...

so mein ne automatically reflex action kee terhaan us ka saath de dya and smiled coz it would have been rude of me at that moment to not or look away as then she would have felt bad....

but to this day, i curse myself when i think of that moment, it was not the moment to smile....my heart did not even feel like that from inside anyway....then why did it? it was inappropriate....

i am sure if that person's rooh saw me smiling then they would understand....and that is what matters....but i still think it was disrespectful of me and i shud not have...its been about 8 yrs but i still remember that moment and regret it....tho i dono what else i would have done in it again as i dint even wana hurt my cousins feelings... :-/

sometimes situations r weird

khayr, my roommate and i have this weird habit...

sometimes at the most serious of things we start laughing...

its weird...we dont find the thing funny....but we just laugh.....maybe coz we dont knwo how to react or somfin....

i feel weird abt that....and some ppl have taken major offence at our reactions at certain times...

so yeh sometimes we do weird things :p

My god, so it’s true that people actully videotape funrals. :nono4:

i never did laugh at jinaza… .. but i remember doin that a lot when i was in terrible terrible fix.. mayb its just a way of relaxing a bit … or mayb i laugh just bcoz i dont kno wut else to do .. :konfused: but i do kno atleast that way i wasnt really tense anymore about stuff.

i have only seen 2 funerals in my life..i have attended numerous tadfeens (quran khawanis)..and i don’t think that i laughed..but some people i know do laugh on purpose..like sharing a qissa of the marhoom that makes other divert the attention off the crying session..or to make people around them smile a bit..so that the other person forget the pain even if its for few moments.

i can’t see people sad..i can’t see people crying..it just tears my heart apart..so at times of trains/airport departures..rukhsatis..i have a tendency of making people smile or laugh around me…There are numerous instances in my life where i was smiling..while others were making sad faces or were crying.

Laughing and smiling is a great way to release tensions..so DD don’t feel bad :flower2:

I think it's probably psychological, when my aunt died on the day of her funeral I was really sad, I was on top of the stair when I so this really huge lady sitting their, as rooms we're full downstairs some ppl were coming up, but they could'nt get pass her, and she could'nt budge, they we're squeezing past her, when I so that it made me laugh/smile, I think it's just mind playing games with u

I think some people just find the smallest things funny, its natural really. My fiance will giggle at the dumbest of things, i think its kind of cute ;)

EP, you should be anwering that you lazy git :stuck_out_tongue:

baqi logo..as long as i’m not the only one. i feel better

PS: The worst one was when my friend told me her dad had a heart attack and i laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed… :teary2:
I just could not be serious…and she knows that i never be serious so she was like i expected this of you…but still i feel bad :crying:

Grateful Dead jaanums, nahinnnnnnnnnnnn, i’m not immature. IT’s nothing to do with immaturity at all..
