I often read on net and even am told my people to recite some ayats but in off numbers. Why is that so?
Re: Why Odd numbers?
**it's because ODD repreesents ONENESS of Allah...if you take out all the pairs [plurality of godhood] then at the end u'll have ONLY ONE remaining.
it's NOT part of Islamic belief system though...it's just an extension and incorporation of wahdaaniyat in our day to day life...**
Re: Why Odd numbers?
Oh wow it does make sense! but i still think its perhaps not a must.
Anyways, thanks so much for your help!

It is not a must but there is a hadees a pak:
in Sahih Bukhari:
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: There are ninety-nine names of Allah; he who commits them to memory would get into Paradise. Verily, Allah is Odd (He is one, and it is an odd number) and He loves odd number. And in the narration of Ibn 'Umar (the words are):" He who enumerated them."

YES, it's NOT necessary that you buy something in ODD numbers. do things odd number of times...i said that in my previous post as well that it's NOT an Islamic requirement :)
Re: Why Odd numbers?
Yes, odd numbering is ubiquitous in Islam and some other religions.
Lailatul Qadar is found in odd nights too. Ablution has three times cleaning/washing everything. or One time is acceptable if water is not enough.
Trinity is three in one.

If it is not part of Islamic beleif, then, can we safely call it Bidah? :)
Re: Why Odd numbers?
Well, Jinx using such hard words, you must see what you saying. Biddah is something, which you creates first time in islam, which have not been done by Prophet (PBUH), nor said by Allah.

Salam Zareen Khan. There are several other things which are odd and will always be odd. The first one is Oneness of Allah. the second is his One Beloved (Prophet (PBUH)). nUMBERS of Manazil in Quran, Number of Farz namaz, there are many things which are odd.
Don't go in depth in such small things... because it turns you to some other directions. Instead of thinking about these things if we think about the world and the beauty of Allah, which he has shown in different creation of the world, so we must be get closer to HIM. Wouldn't we..... :)...

Yes. So. My question remains:
Since the concept that ODD representing ONENESS of Allah is not an Islamic Belief, it is apparently created to incorporate extension of Wahdaniyat in Islam, and hence not been done by prophet (saw), does it make it bidah? :)
