If the people you are discussing in your post are "disputing, contradicting, and confuting" one another for the sole purpose of "disputing, contradicting and confuting" one another, than yes I agree with you. However if they are involved in a fruitful debate - than I disagree with you. Debating and critically analyzing differing viewpoints is one of the hallmarks of civil society, a necessary component for the development of knowledge and critical analysis of human processes.
Debate can be a powerful tool and should be used to stimulate thoughtful discussion and encourage deeper thought. Within the confines of a debate you often have disagreements, disputes, contradictions and conflicting views. Debates are not about being "victorious" over your opponent, they are about presenting two (or more), often opposing viewpoints, and about respecting one another's right to those viewpoints and encouraging one another to examine issues on a deeper level. If in the process you are able to build a bridge of mutual understanding and add to one another's base of knowledge and to the knowledge of those who are observing the debate - you have accomplished something of value. The people involved in these debates, weather they be participants or observers, who are able to dispute with one another, criticize one another without the fear of reprisal, uncover contradictions in one another's thought processes and confute one another's arguments are not "unfortunate in their affairs". They are in fact fortunate enough to have engaged in a process of critical understanding. "Good will" is the end result of a fruitful debate - the ability to agree to disagree when the occasion warrants is a gesture of "good will" in itself.
If the debate that NY Ahmadi and I engaged in transgressed these boundaries, I again apologize. My intention was not to "dispute, contradict and confute" for the sole purpose of disagreement. Re-reading my post, I find that it easily could be misinterpreted as an attack on an individual rather than an invitation to discuss areas of concern. My post may have been overly judgmental and I apologize to NY Ahmadi for that - my purpose was not to hurt anyone's feelings.

I disagree. Two individuals who "disgust" one another, can still engage in a fruitful discussion. Two individuals who "hate" one another, on the other hand, may face obstructions.
Besides, it was just a poor selection of words by both of us.

I know all of you always have different opinions but everybody has freedom of opinion and we should not take this right away. I also disagree with many of the arguments in this forum but try to refute them by real logical debate.
This kind of attitude is not good.
