Quranic dictats create more debate than they subside. Just go to religon forum. You can't even agree whether allah wants you to wear a piece of cloth on just your head or like a burlap sack around your body.
You are right, quran is very different from the other holy books. It has some fastastic messages. Mostly for the arabians of the 7th century. Apparently they treated women like chattle and needed step by step instructions on how to act or be around them in a civilized way. The rest of the world evolved on it's own.
