Why More Investment in Wrong Area

As I am feeling now a days, in my country , A lot of foreign investment is coming. Also some of the local people/groups also got too much money.

In this aspect they are putting investment in Housing Porjects, Hotels, Plazaas…etc…The less risky bussiness.

instead…they should make a cd/dvd making factory…mobile chip factory or pc processor development factory…why not…

Why less investment in Industry. that is what help our country to grow. it will vanish a lot of unemployment.

I dont know the facts & figures but that is what I have seen on t.v, newspapers…etc.:halo:

They are also making investments in other areas, like buying steel mill, KESC and PTDC.

Re: Why More Investment in Wrong Area

largest investment recently comming is to telecoms, which is services sector. other thing you will not see advertisement for investment in telco or IT companies, only know from may be IT or business related sectors.

lot of investment gone to industry as well, specially auto sector. but you are right the Hi tech industry is not attracting much investment from within or abroad.

If I remember only company that make microchips in Pakistan is Micro Inc, based in Lahore. and they are major defence and police contractor providing wireless and radar quipment.

We have home grown stron eletrical appliances industry, PEL, SAbro, Dawlance are now household names in Pakistan.

PTCL, Sony and Phillips have also manufecturing units in Pakistan.

hmm...........I didn't know that.

Re: Why More Investment in Wrong Area

Most investment in Pakistan are as Mr. Cowasjee says "puting in one dollar and taking out six"! Most mutlitnational companies are doing only trading activities in Pakistan! Any manufacturing is just limited to "packing" importing stuff in big container and packing them into small boxes etc - the prime example is that of Unilever! Same is ture with autombile compaines like Toyota and Honda. They have not made any heavy investment in plant and machinery or towards transfer of technology to Pakistan.

If WTO/GATT implemented and free trade allowed with India, most of the multinationals will shut down their factories in Pakistan and will import cheap commodities from India and will do only trading in Pakistan.
