Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

As I said, I prefer to go through NGOs rather than Pakistani army or government. And no, those weren't rumors.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

You did not state a preference. You accused the Army of 'corruption/misappropriation' without any proof. Do not say they weren't rumours unless you can state any proof of such allegations. If you are just going to rely on hearsay, then please don't post anything. The Army has been one institution that has always been at the forefront of any relief efforts whenever our nation has needed help. Seriously do not diss the Army.

Sigh

This is exactly what we need right now. People running off their mouth simply because they can.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

If you really belive Army is not corrupt, you are very naive, and obviously do not live in Pakistan.

Military in every country always leads the rescue efforts because they are the ones with the helicopters, trucks, boats, etc.

Every govt in Pakistan is corrupt, the current one, and especially Army govts.

People can donate through NGO's with tood reputations such as Edhi, Islamic Relief, TCF

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

^Thanks.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

Doh! No **** Sherlock!

I know the Army like any other institution in the world is bound to have some form of corruption. My point is they are out there reaching out to and helping a whole lot of people that are in places hard to access. At times like this, they are there for assistance and we should support the men who are on the ground genuinely helping our people.

And my statement still stands. Unless you have any proof to support your allegations about Army misappropriating the aid that is being sent over, quit running your mouth. I'm talking about the money that is coming in not about other instances of corruption. I'm not saying don't give to NGO's because they are seriously doing some amazing work while we're out here arguing on an internet forum. Just give whatever you can and wherever you can!

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

I'm just not going to give my money to anyone associated with the gov, I'd make sure that it reaches to the needy.

pakistani government is getting millions of aid from other governments directly anyway so i'm gonna go for an ngo.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

I know Pak army and gov are full of corrupt retards who will steal even in this humanitarian crisis. Still, even if there is 10% reaching the poor victims, I don't mind donating. Can someone tell me whether following are good?:

1) The American fund that Hillary Clinton mentioned
2) Edhi foundation (because I read abt it in an Ardeshir Cowasjee piece

If so how do I reach them?

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

Except a lot of NGO's are corrupt too. But I guess for some zealots, money going to OBL is well spent anyway.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

Yeah Edhi Foundation is quite reliable. I'd be in Pakistan in few weeks so I'm gonna contact them directly but I think you can donate through their website.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

All I see is excuses from Pakistanis not to send money. Those of us who do care, make the effort. We don't [edit by lusi] about it on the internet.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

^ Wouldn't it be useful if you can help me find the answers about what the best way to send aid to the needy? I wouldn't be asking in an internet forum if the local Pakistan population can provide a clear guideline. Almost everyone in the Edison, NJ Pak community that I know tell me not to waste my money by sending it through any channel that puts it in the hands of ANY Pak gov agency!

Believe it or not, my daughter was crying this morning because I wouldn't write a check and send it in to some charity or other! And we are not even Pakistanis!

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

I just came across an interesting fact, Pakistan needs $15 billion to rebuild and do you know how much US is spending on the war in afghanistan every month? $5billion.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren’t sending flood donations home

That’s heartening to read. I think if someone really wants to send any money, they can easily google any NGO or whatever and do some background research. I find it silly when people say oh we don’t know who to donate to, oh we don’t trust this or that. Come on, get off your arses and google it! BTW this is a rant aimed at everyone, not at you!

I’d say if you’re wary of handing it over to the Pakistani government, look into Imran Khan Flood Relief Fund, Disaster Emergency Committee, Sahara For Life, Edhi Foundation, Islamic Relief, Red Cross and such like (To name a few). These are generally well respected NGO’s.

P.S. I’ve linked you to their donation pages, you can read about them and make an informed decision.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

^You could've said that without being badtameez.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

Ooh I have an interesting fact too! The sun is over a hundred times larger than the earth.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

I wasn't being batamiz! I was merely stating that it surprises me when people can't just google and read up for a couple of minutes before making a decision. And this 'Flood Deluge' person is doing something really nice, I wasn't taking a shot at him/her.

How many billions a country spends or not is its own concern. More so since those billions are not stolen or given in charity by any other state.

No country has ANY obligation whatsoever to help Pakistan. Pakistanis should be grateful that the international community in general and the U.S. in particular have been so generous.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

OBL is eating all the $5 bills these days I hear.

Re: Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

You can send money to Edhi, Imran Khan Hope fund, and army Fund. They all are local organizations and extremely reliable. Besides that, please check the announcement, it has lot of local and international organizations info.
