**Why KESC un-switch street lights during morning hours?
**I saw many time KESC never SWITCH off lights during morning hours which is total wastage of powers and loss of money. I feel pain that is why feel responsibility to bring the notice of Higher authority.
More interest to share KESC never realized this wastage of power and never questioned who is responsible for the loss or how to prevent this wastage to overcome the electricity crisis.
Please do not waste electricity un-necessary even we have surplus power, those who intentionally do this wastage are answerable and never skip from punishment not from higher authority but God.
Please think positive in the interest of KESC to closed all street lights when sunrise and any one who do not follow the KESC management instruction should be punished so In future he become careful and make sure all lights properly switch off.
Re: Why KESC un-switch street lights during morning hours?
Some of these things are just plain out-rightly stupid. While there was (and still is) a HUGE power in the country, they once decided to spend Rs. 320 million on a water fountain in Karachi. The average cost to run the damn thing was over 2 lakh per day. Furthermore, some people actually did us a favor by stealing the expensive fountain!
Re: Why KESC un-switch street lights during morning hours?
Spock, I am surprised you forgot the whole fountain saga, the fountain was returned after it was reported in media but that fountain is a different topic.

Keeping lights on during daytime when there is no power...
Making a power hogging water fountain when there is no power...
Unjustified expenditure, different topic, perhaps, but on the same lines... p.s. who stole the fountain?

How much power was it consuming? There are tons and tons of unjustified expenditure all over the government, BTW where did you get the amount Rs 2 lakh per day for the operation?
It wasn't clear who stole it but it was dropped back at the location "secretly" (probably overnight).
Re: Why KESC un-switch street lights during morning hours?
So just because there are other tonnes and tonnes of unjustified expenditures, this one was alright? Atleast the others werent as outrightly evident as this, this was just mocking the poor people by showing them a gushing stream of water (which they dont have) along with waste of electricity (which again they dont have either). It got shut off a long time ago, so there goes 325 million down the drain.
You can google up the links, or look up the GS threads on that for operating costs. p.s. Fat Babur Ghauri was involved in that project, and ever since hes become the minister for shipping, hes now in Pakistna’s top 10 richest people.

Spock, must I remind you to stick to the topic instead of hijacking it to twist it to your own selected direction?
There are thousands of other wastages and stupidities going around in the country, especially in Punjab province, like Sasti Roti scheme. But you chose to pick something related to Karachi only. That tells something.
The amount of time you spend on Karachi's affairs is surprising, given that you are yourself a non-Karachiite.
I am wondering what could be the reason of that never-ending "love" to Karachi politics. One trait does come to my mind. Should I let you know what it is?

Well, that's what I am saying. Why is a non-Karachiite more interested in Karachi affairs instead of his own backyard? Any particular reason?
Let me remind you a few. What do you think about Sasti Roti scheme? What about motorway between Islamabad and Lahore? The travel time now must have been half now. Right?
And how is Talibanic militancy going on in KP? How about sectarian militants in Southern Punjab who attacked SriLankan team and deprived Pakistan of holding the world cup?
Re: Why KESC un-switch street lights during morning hours?
Let me make it clear to you:
i) I can talk about any place I like, nothing in this discussion forum says that I have to show Altaf Hussain or you my ID card before I discuss anything
ii) Not that I have to justify myself to you, I was born in Karachi, my maternal side of the family owns the LARGEST automobile spare parts business in the city

When I said tonnes of other unjustified expenditures I meant that each should be a separate topic unless we want to throw every thing in every topic. There are many other 'fountains' in other parts of the country, should we shut them off too because we are wasting electricity, manpower, real estate, resources? Go ahead and list them all here, be my guest.

If you know of any other fountains that the Govt built for 325+ million rupees, which dont work either... If you do, please share...
Re: Why KESC un-switch street lights during morning hours?
i) I can discuss whatever I like, if you have a problem with that, go complain to the mods, until then keep a lid on it… and stop making assumptions.
ii) If you can provide a rationale for having street lights on during broad day light, please let us know. It’s not for fun, its called corruption and incompetence, and it doesnt happen just in Karachi, its everywhere. The only place where I’ve seen switch automata sensor street lights is Islamabad, and even that does not work properly.
Here is pictorial evidence of KESC vehicles being used to put up flags of MQM all over the streets before one of their ‘jalsas’…
Re: Why KESC un-switch street lights during morning hours?
^ If they are misusing the resources then its wrong.
Who is to say these flags were there and someone is doing wrok on these vehicles for legitimate reason. These pictures by themselves are no proof of your point.
Again the lights could be on for some reason.
Or do yo think they were on daytime to 'celebrate' MQM work? Somehow it does not seem far-fetched that you would agree with that. :D
Do you know sun comes in morning because it wants to shine on MQM workers? :) (I did not say that for MQM support by the way)
And when you say go to mods............everytime someone says something to you......... ;)
