i don’t know why , but something really very bad going with karachi
event after event, day after day , new events happen in karachi and people and govt and every one just see and suffer
as soon as they stop blaming each other , the next day , other event came and same thing start again
some day , a building is burning
second day , salab ,sign board killing people
third day student are killing each other
fourth day again same building under fire
and then bridge collapse
evil intentions, insincerity, corruption and a lot more...
that is in all pakistan and similarly this thing is not new in karachi . surely it is not started now in karachi but in past so many event don't happen so closely
..and piss poor share of funding vis a vis population and controbution to teh national GDP, historically speaking.
Yeah, but consder the fact that pretty much across the country, developments funds are either not used or misused...
Take the example of the KCR, even with funds, the Karachi govt hasnt even able to open a single corridor... There is absolutely no sign of any real mass transit system in this huge city. Yet these flyovers and underpasses are going up over night...
They have absolutely no plan to resolve the problem of flooding... You would think that they might have some kind of plan, but they dont even have that! The infrastructure is crumbling everywhere! Whatever plans they do have are short sighted and cosmetic.
They are spending this HUGE amount of funding on a fly over Highway through the city, which according to most credible analysts is a big waste of money, will not solve anything, and will do some serious damage to the environment of the city... And yet they are going after this like a holy cow... I anyone had a clue they would realize that traffic problems are never solved by building mmore Highways, and yet they are going at it!
Funding isnt half the problem, Karachi needs a lot more then just funding.

hain?? Karachi gets more than its due share- contributors to national GDP are punjabi farmers, sialkot football manufacturers and Islamic scholars who attract a lot of money towards fee from tons of foriegn students.
I have been informed that as a percentage, Karachi contributes 50% of Pakistan GDP, yet it has a population of only 10% of the whole Pakistan population, and direct government investment back in to Karachi is much less than other places. Apparantly that is why Karachiites are not happy?

Just because it is not in the news everyday does nto mean its not happening, plans for high speed trains exist, vendors evaluated and all. from what I know land acquisition has been an issue.
as far as other projects go, I personally know that for storm water drainagem sewwerage and water supply, teh govt back in 80's and 90's decided to go for projects with 10 year life versus those with 30 year (in terms of capacity) that is a typical trait of corrupt practices where instead of spending 200M once they will spend 80M 3 times and it gives ppl 3 chances to get their cut.
as far as highways and roads go, they are needed the alternative mass transit should be there but in addition to and not just as an alternative to a better road and highway system
I know yaar, im always keeping track of this stuff... I can tell you that in the past 5 years, I must have heard about the KCR being revived atleast ten times without anything to show for it...
But besides not having done anything to revive the KCR, they havent even been able to provide a quality bus service...
And coruption is at the core of the issue. I mean i would hate to be in Karachi when there is a major earthquake... Most of the buildings are built illegaly without any transparency or safve guards...
Agreed roads a necessary, but that is all they are doing.. And the wear this like a abadge of honore... The city Nazim, people like the guy, but besides build flyovers and underpasses everywhere, I dont see any practical improvement.
Besides this, the best litmus test for a cities efficiency is how the handle the small problems...
Streets of Karachi are filled trash, and they cant afford anyone to pick it up? How much will it take to ban plastic bags that liter the city?
Look at all the pot holes, how much does it take to fill those holes?
If the city govt cant manage these basic issues, what can we expect from them when it comes to the serious problems?
yeh sub hamaray gunahoon ki saza hai aur ALLAH ka azab haihum paisa kamanay kay xhakaroon main aur dunia kay mailoon main aisay gum ho gay hain kay ALLAH TAALLAH KO BHOOL GAY HAIN , YEH SIRF KARACHI KI BAAT NAHI YEH CITY BHI HAMARAY MULK KA HISA HAI .ALLAH MUSALMANO KO APNI HIFAZAT MAIN RAKHAY ,AMEEN.
