why jins? (Q 4 NYA 3)

Ok when I lived in Paksitan my relatives would tell me to go to sleep in the afternoon and that I could not go outside cause a jin would eat me. I was little and believed them. That wasn’t very nice.

You're right it wasn't very nice at all. On the other hand, it wasn't ideal for the jins either, who we can only assume, had to go hungry.

Waqas72. This concept is pretty much borrowed from Pagan customs that existed some 3000 years ago in the Indus Valley. There is a great book “Where the Wild Things Are – By Maurice Sandak”. It is a children book, and he takes little kids to a journey to explain how imagination can actually take you anywhere you wish to go. Maurice Sandak explains that he borrowed the Characters (Mainly Monsters) as a reflection of his Uncles and Aunts. So when your Aunt says to you, that “I will eat you up, oh, you look so cute”, in fact they are the Monsters. So in this case, the Jins can be your Uncles or Aunts (mainly Aunts), cause they are the ones, who bite your cheek instead of giving you a gentle kiss.

So the concept of Jins is not unique to just our culture, but it is pretty universal. I will try to ask my mother and see if she can shed some additional light, as she does the same thing to her grandkids (my kids).

In the meanwhile, do get a copy of the book “Where the Wild Things

Just an addendum, the Monster Aunts who also nip on your butt along with cheeks (face ones) are specially the ones to be very afraid of.

no kidding! I know a few like that! they’re still scary!
