Its scary for some ppl to seriously entertain the possibility they might be wrong about something that is so fundementally important to them. it can be quite painful to challange something you instinctively believe to be abhorrant for instance and also to consider that there may be fundemental elements of your centurys old, established belief system that might be wrong/misguided, especially when it is so engrained and knitted in to history, your community, your family. Its very easy to get defensive about both because it takes you to an unsafe area which threatens to make your life more of a struggle than it already is, but truth suffers as a consequence of this cowardice. Its something we all suffer from to one extent or another i think: we want what we want to be true to be true, even if it means accepting, on the surface, unpalatable ‘truths’ that appear to have to come with it. But people ultimately filter all the information they get into something that sits rightly with them. So you can have 2 muslims who conduct them selves very differently, even though on the surface they appear to agree. From what ive witnessed, there is as much self deception and hypocrisy amongst religious ppl as amongst non religipus, it doesnt appear to make a difference, ppl will defend thier belief system to great costs, mostly to the greatest cost of missing the bigger picture.

ur right ..but i think ppl also avoid talking abt religion in public because u know,sometimes others dont have enough courage to hear camly others veiw,and their reasoning behind their faith in some matter…i have heard ppl saying that we avoid talking on religion amongst friends because of a possible fight due to lack of understanding eachothers point of veiw ..so its better to talk on other issues rather then religion..
