They did the prequel (six episodes) when he (Andy Whitfield) was in treatment and aired that. He got better, they were about to start the second season story (following the events of the first season) but he relapsed. He told them himself to recast because he did not know whether he would be able to carry on. So they re-cast and started filming and during that time he passed away. :( RIP Andy!!!!
