Re: Why is
In the era of anxiety and depression, i would suggest a simple life style.
People never learn from the mistakes of others.
People feel anxious and depressed everyday but never acknowledge the fact.
I wonder where the honest attitude is.

It's like in the Matrix ... Desiring the world in the Matrix is to desire an illusion ... Full of false hopes and false promises, but in reality enslaves us and confines our freedom.
Re: Why is

Desiring worldly things is natural. Allah made this world for us and He is the one who fulfills our worldly needs, so desiring it not a bad thing. But it becomes a problem when worldly things are treated as the be-all/end-all or end goal of life. Worldly things are not permanent and they go up and down. For instance, fame is not permanent...it goes up and down. One day you're famous, the next day you're not...or you're outdone/replaced by someone else. You career js not permanent...you can get fired or laid off. Even the people you attach yourself to are not permanent....they will die, or move away, or betray you, or break up with you, and people's moods change....one day your loved one is more affectionate, another day they might be irritable. And in the case of fame/popularity......you are depending heavily on people's opinions about you...and people's moods and can inclinations can change suddenly and quickly...it's a fickle thing. So, when we form very strong emotional attachments to worldly things which are not permanent and move up and down....we start to move up and down. In other words we become unstable when we experience temporary setbacks and losses or even permanent losses with worldly matters.
Also it's not uncommon for people to experience a depression soon after achieving a goal. For example, you worked hard to get that top position and after getting it you think "I got it, but now what?" Or how a bride goes all out in planning a lavish wedding and after it's over thinks..."It's over. that's it?" Or people who desire fame/legacy.....if you think about it....when you use a piece of technology, do you really think about the inventor of it? I don't. And many of these inventors have died...do we think about them often? Maybe when you read a text book. Many don't live to see their recognition.

No. They are not.
Who told you that?............ is the question.
Re: Why is
Money, food, air/oxygen, water, clothes, etc. are worldly things.
Re: Why is
This is a good point to make a distinction between 'alami and dunyawi... Both of these translate to worldly ... But are starkly different ... 'Alam is the natural physical world ... Dunya is the apparent nature of it ... Or the value we ascribe to possessions such as gold, fame, authority. In both is a requirement to work within the alam and remove attachment from dunya ... The concept is depicted by this du'a.
O Allah, put wealth in my hands, but not in my heart.
In the hands means the fitnahs associated to poverty are avoided, such as jealousy, theft, begging, untrustworthiness, etc ... Not in the heart means other fitnahs can be avoided such as pride, greed, megalomania, etc ...
