Why is Urdu the national language of Pakistan?

...

..

Bull and puke my friend Lajo…Urdu is Turkish for Army language. It is totally Sanskrit based (which burns your ancestral Hindu arse). It is written in Arabic scripts because the stupid Moghals couldn’t read Sanskrit. Punjabi has been written in Gurmukhi longer than Urdu has existed. So go and get your Urdu inferiority complex checked. Don’t ever tell it to a Punjabi that Urdu is our national treasure. It can go back to where it originated from.

Urdu has done to native languages more harm than the freaking Molvis and Islam.

But on another note, my Guruji (a Bengali) speaks fluent and the most sophisticated Urdu I have ever heard. It was the language of the courts as well, and all courtesans were required to be proficient in it. It is a fine language, but it is not OUR language. I personally feel closer to Yidish than to Urdu or Arabic (a choice lingo of terrorists - yes cultural terrorsits).

Ever wondered what language did the prostitutes of Moghal and other Royal courts of India conversed in? Good guess. Now shove it.

when pakistan was formed we should have opted for Arabic as our national language

only one generation would had problems but after that everything should have been fine

Arabia Lughatunaa! :)

Urdu is here to stay! All of my family speaks Punjabi, but I am so proud of the fact that our everyone in the newer generations speaks Urdu! It is such an incredible language. Those ignorant pople bashing urdu probably didnt get a proper education in Urdu, the works of Mir, Ghalib, Iqbal, Faiz etc are enough to convince you. As for the einstiens suggesting Jinnah did it for a personal motive, may I remind you that he himself barely knew the language, his decision was based on what was best for the country. His decision was so phenomenal that he went to Bangladesh and publicy announced 'Let me make it clear to you that I will have just one national language, Urdu'. Another thing that makes me proud is the fact that every Pakistani student coming to the US can converse in Urdu, whereas most students coming in from India cannot speak Hindu, but there own language, be it tamil, malayam etc.

What should be our national language, if not urdu? If any of the provincial languages are made national, it would create disharmony, plus everything in this country is all set to operate in Urdu, be it national ID cards, to the course syllabuses, so mr. taz, even if your nonsense about changing the language made some sense, its not possible. Those wanting Arab as their national language should just move out of Pakistan to some arabic country, they probably enjoy being called rafeeqs.

Lajawab, you are a sad soul. Your vendetta against Punjab, Lahore, women is deplorable. I am glad that other lovemate of yours got banned. Now I hope its your turn. What gives you the right to call people speaking a particular language 'harami'. Pehle apney aap ko dekho, then start lecturing others with filth.

What’s wrong with you people? Mother tongue is very precious, it sounds very silly if someone’s mother tongue is Punjabi/ Pashto or Balochi and they say that they don't like it. It’s who you are, why would you not like it?
If we had Punjabi as the national language then it would be like Punjabi is a superior language than the other languages spoken in Pakistan. It’s a province of Pakistan not everything Pakistan represents. We need one language through which everyone can easily communicate and thus we have Urdu, it’s not stopping you to learn Punjabi or any other language.

I cannot understand how stupid some people here can be. Urdu, is such a polite and gentle language and it earns its status as our national language, what needs to go is this stupid english but not urdu. You guys are willing to accept english and not urdu, how pathetic pakistani can get.
As for punjabi lovers, indeed its a nice language but imagine doing your daily offical business in punjabi, it would sound hilarious.

We need a basis that everyone can speak and no one feels neglected. urdu is a great basis.

Madh, why dont you move to India, or better get the Indian nationality, I dont have anything against India, but your ass kissing gets too much at some times for my taste, it looks so forced and artificial.

Spock, agree with you, just imagine all the language barriers that we would have had, had we not had Urdu, some marons are just never happy.

Tell you what Madhanee, why don’t you request that Gupshup set up a Gurmukhi script so you can post in authentic Punjabi, you can write whatever crap you like, we won’t understand it -everyones a winner and it’s one in the eye for the b*****d English imperialists!

Bharat zindabad! :jhanda:

okay, I'd like to know what's so funny about carrying out official work in punjabi?

Ever seen a punjabi movie? Imagine that kind of scenes, in your daily office routine.

You think a punjabi movie accurately portrays real life?

Some of you don't know what you're talking about. Even in Indian movies, they speak what is basially Urdu with some hindi words thrown in. Even many Afghans know urdu, nonetheless Karzai.

Urdu is taking over the world.

Changed my mind again...

Wa anta aidan ya ravage :)

Everybody here is talking of having Urdu, or a regional language. etc... Has anybody ever thought: If Urdu or any other regional language is so dear to us, than why is English used in Offices and everywhere? In addition English words are commonly used in Urdu in our daily lives. So why has the love for Urdu gone to sleep. If we really love Urdu than why are we even writing here in English? (Pakistan's largest discussion board) :)

Come one guys... lets be realistic, nobody cares for Urdu that much, only very few do. From leaders to an ordinary worker, all the attention is on getting our children in an English school. An urdu school is looked down upon in Pakistan by our own selves. The constitution demands that we implement Urdu in Offices but that is left in cold storage.. So which language do we actually want in reality........???? I am sure we are the most confused nation on earth which even starts questioning its existence after 50 years!

Even if we have Japanese language and stick to it and not question it being right or wrong we would prosper a lot.
