Why is India “World’s largest democracy” so silent on Burma? This is not the sign of a self-confident emerging power with a fiercely independent foreign policy orientation.India awarded the 1993 Nehru Prize for International Understanding to Suu Kyi and made a strong political point – without severing its relations with the Burmese government.
Why does India oppose economic sanctions or other tough measures against the Burmese regime.

India basicaly hold its nose and eadl with Burmese junta because China is close to them too. So it is simple national security issue. As for example Pakistan ignores China's harassement of its Muslim population.
