Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer has called on Shoaib Akhtar to put his differences with certain officials behind him and take Pakistan cricket forward.
Woolmer met up with a 26-man training squad for the Asia Cup in Lahore on the first day of his new job.
The Englisman, a former coach of South Africa, said: "There is no secret that Shoaib has a difference of opinion with the Pakistan Cricket Board.
**“But if he wants to play the bottom line is he has to be here.” **
Shoaib’s commitment has been criticized by board chiefs and former players alike after he injured his rib during the home Test series defeat against India in April.
The PCB formed a medical commission to assess the injury which finally accepted, in May, that he had not faked the injury.
But he was not initially selected for the Asia Cup after spending some time on the sidelines for Durham with more rib trouble to blame.
**Woolmer travelled to England to talk to the player face-to-face.
“Shoaib must get on board our bus and the bus is going forward,” said the coach, who replaces the sacked Javed Miandad. **
The 56-year-old has a contract to guide the national team to the 2007 cricket World Cup in the West Indies.
Woolmer said he would be pleased to hear from former Pakistan players, including Miandad.
“Javed has a lot to do with this particular team and therefore I would like to ask him and talk to him about it,” he added.
“That’s part of how I coach. I am not scared to bring other people on board. It’s important that the coach is open.”
