Let’s say some corporation wants to build a huge skyscraper in Pakistan, or develop a luxury resort up north, or develop a huge mall. Why is that wrong? Why do people come out in droves on this forums claiming that it is a waste, and the money should be given to the poor?
Here are some pros I see of these kind of developments:
Foreign investment is likely going to come into Pakistan.
If the money isn’t spent building a mall/tourist resort or skyscraper in Pakistan, it will likely be spent doing that in some other country.
People get job building and maintaining. Poor people get work out of this.
Creates an environment that attracts more investors.
Some cons:
Given the system in Pakistan, these things will likely be built using land that was obtained by exploiting people, and bribing officials. So it leads to more corruption.
More congestion
Lack of water/electricity to begin with. It will lead to even more.
Re: Why is it wrong if some corporation wants to build a big tourist/business center
I am Neutral to this idea/investment plans. My concerns were, do we have enough fire extinguishing capabilities? What happens if there is a fire on 86th floor? Do we have remedies again Earth Quakes? Since PK is on fault belt? Who will keep the building clean or will see smell pi$$ & see "PAAN PEEK" in the corridors & stairs? Do we have 24/7 Electricity to run lifts & basic necessities in these building?
First we must have all these & many more then we should think about sky scrappers.
