i was told the “TAN” at the end stood for somtehing too…like ‘T’ for something…then ‘A’ n then the ‘N’…i dont remmeber tho…my nani told me when she was here…

Whom are you questioning? the people who named it or the land itself? I'm sure those people had good intentions in their heart .. sadly they didn't know one day, instead being held by care and love, it will be aimed by such unproductive criticism. rolling eyes doesn't add anything to your own personal moral health.

Our forefathers were very intelligent people and had a good taste of humor as well. They came up with this name to tease our neighbors and it actually worked! It was not long after our country was named "Pakistan" (meaning "land of the pure") that our neighbors started something called Kumbh Mela in their country where millions would take a dip in water and cleanse themselves. And they continue to do so till this day and will continue doing it as long as Pakistan exists. Long live Pakistan!

no i wasn’t saying anything to critize pakistan. why would i do that to my own homeland?
i’m just asking a simple question as to what the reasoning was behind that. PAK means clean, dunnit? I’m guessing it’s because it’s changed a lot ever since the birth of the nation.
p.s. there’s no such thing as “personal moral health” really. and i was only posting the virtual rolleyes icon. not really an action.

Nahin bache! I’m not making it up. I read it in books as well as online. A cambridge student Chaudhary Rahmat Ali coined it in the pamphlet “Now or never” in 1933. (I hope I’m not wrong about the details.) He later expanded upon this. But, that’s not relevant now.
