I wore a black saree to my uncle’s walima and no-one said anything or gave me dirty looks. I wouldn’t mind if ppl wore black to my mehndi, wedding or walima (not too many of them obviously tho lol).. My family used to be funny about white when I was little but now my Mum says it’s ok to go ahead and wear ivory/cream for my own wedding.. it’s funny how ppl’s perceptions change..
