..considered bad luck for a wedding? If it is bad luck, then why is the groom allowed to wear black, in the form of a suit/sherwani etc…?
I attended a wedding a few years back where the bride wore black to her wedding. She looked absolutely stunning. A lot of the aunties present were all and …
Black is the color of mourning in Western culture as well; most brides tend to avoid it, but that doesn’t stop Western grooms from wearing black tuxedos (possibly because the white ones make them look like waiters).
I’ve never heard of black sarees/lenghas/shalwar-kameezes/etc… being bad luck for Desi brides; it was my understanding that the brides avoid it because it’s so somber and not even remotely festive. Also, it’s so far from what are considered the traditional bridal colors of cream/ivory, gold, red and green.
For what it’s worth: I have nothing against brides wearing black, but I think black sherwanis are a bit much; they make it appear as if the groom is attending a funeral, not his own wedding.
I've never seen a black wedding lehnga before, but i can imagine it in my head and it looks stunning, Black saree's are also so beautiful. (The one katrina kaif wore in de dana dan) Was so stunning!
However i dont like black sherwanis for a dulha, Not because its bad luck or anything, its because its jus so dull. The brides gonna be wearing red or sum other colour. Why be dull?
i think black lengha would be absolutely gorgeous....and i love black shewanis and black salwar kameez on men , i think they make men look very classy and regal...:)

Even on grooms at their own weddings? I think cream/ivory sherwanis look better on grooms.
OMG. I was JUST thinking about this the other day when I was sitting with my sister to pick a color for my wedding dress. I really want to wear black, it's hot! But I was told brides shouldn't wear black because they are starting a new life and should start it off with brightness, therefore wearing, reds, blue, purples or any other color other than black signifies a bright life ahead and black doesn't do that. I don't know if it's true but black is still on my list. Hehe
to be honest i thought it was only hindu's and/or sikh's who believe that black brings bad luck but i could be wrong.
i wore a black sari at my mamu's wedding and i've seen other women wear black at very close family members weddings and no1 batted an eyelid. never seen a bride wear black though
^ chudidar's on men are just odd...not everybody can pull of chudidar (men or women)
Hmmm i guess so.. Altho i adore chudidar.
